So, I'm in a somewhat uncertain spot. I entered Thailand on a single-entry B visa, got the 90 day stamp on 16 Jan 2010. I was still waiting for paperwork to come through, so I was simply waiting here with my Thai wife while that happened. It's finally getting around to the point that I need to do something (expires 15 April), so I'm wondering what's the best choice to take. I still intend to get work (and assuming not too many more delays, should happen within the next couple of weeks.) Unfortunately I need to travel for two weeks 26April-9May which is complicating what I will do (since I want to keep my original permission to stay alive, continuous non-broken etc for possible purposes down the line.)

Question 1: Can I submit a WP application based on the 60 day visit family extension?

Question 2: Can I get a re-entry permit for this 60 day visit extension, and will it still be considered non-immigrant O/B when I return?

Question 3: If I go the 1 year Family/O route, can I get a re-entry permit for the 30 day under consideration stamp? (Is there any way to get the one year stamp immediately?) I imagine that this stamp would unquestionably be non-immigrant.

And, for the income letter from the US Embassy (still have work in the US), I assume I need to get it translated then certified? Or, is simply having it notarized at the Embassy enough?

1. Yes. But you might only get a limited period (2 months) or be able to to get the WP after you have the 1 year extension.

2. Yes, but do ask when you apply for the re-entry permit. I think it will only be valid for those 30 days, so take a single.

3. Yes, but be sure to come back within those 30 days. You can't get the 1 year immediatly based on marriage.

For the income letter from the embassy the letter isself is enough. No need to have it translated an certified.

Thanks for that info. Seems like the best option is to just go for the Family extension to begin with (more flexibility with work ending etc). Does the letter need to list an (approximate) THB value (or does the form letter from the US embassy have it?)

Will someone come try and find me from immigration once I put in for the 1 year extension, or do I just go back in 30 days and get the full stamp?

Not sure about the US-embassy. But otherwise immigration will use it own currency chart.

You just go back to immigration after 30 days, the date in your passport and get the full stamp

Thanks again! sorry to keep asking questions, but I had just one more... :)

Will the 30 days be from the date of application or from the date of expiry of my extension of stay?

The 30 days will be from the date of application. During that time a police check will be undertaken/enquiries made that you are living with your wife. The paperwork is then approved by a committee in Bangkok that meets every week or two. That is why the extension of stay is not issued immediately.

Well, that means I have to go and apply on the 16th for the 30 day extension, then ... (Mr. Immigration told me that I would have to apply either on the 8th, 9th, or 16th (?? my permit does stop the 15th ... guess that'd be an overstay :D))

Yet another complicating factor is that I'm moving on the 22nd to a new place. Oh, fun, fun ... 60 day extension is looking a bit more secure, but with possible time length limitations on the WP issued.
