"b" Visa Good For 15 Months?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just being a worry wort, double and triple checking everything. A few questions:

(1) I am American on a multiple entry Non "B" which expires mid-September. Is it true that I can do a fourth "visa run" giving me an "extra" 90 days, effectively extending the visa to 15 rather than 12 months?

(2) One other question. Last year, I avoided Penang and the consulates in the area because I heard it had become quite difficult to get a multiple entry "B". Single entry no problem, but not multiple. Has anything about that changed from last year? Anyone geting mutiple entries in Penang?

(3) Finally, I'm single. I have always gotten "B" visas, but I hear that "O" is easier and accomplishes my long-stay goals just as well. What are some of the considerations for "B" vs. "O" ?

Thanks for the help.

Aloha,

Rex

1. You can exit/return for another 90 days before your visa expires in mid September; yes.

2. Not sure but am sure all paperwork would have to be in order and if that is the case would think you would extend your stay rather than make visa runs (unless income too low for extensions).

3. Do not believe a multi O visa can be easily obtained in the local area except for marriage. As you are single it does not seem to fit.

I concur with lop :D

A number of collegues have attempted to get long non-B visas at Penang, HK, Singapore and KL, all have been denied and given 3 month visas.

All have good paperwork and excellent salaries, we are engineering consultants (not teaching) :o

Looks like the local B avenue is firmly shut, well for 12 monthers anyway.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

^ Unless you have a WP to get one.

IIRC this only applies to the poor buggers who have jobs but don't earn enough to be eligible for extensions of stay, others get 3 month visas and then get extensions ad-infinitum.

Guys, you need to look further a field, the world is not as big as it may seem !

Return flight to Sydney, 19,000 baht ! Thai consulate in an excellent location (right next to the Sydney Harbour), the most friendly Thai consulate staff you will EVER see, no falang tramps holding up the queue (in fact there is no queue), 12 month multiple entry B visa done in 24 hours, no questions asked !!! KL, Sing, Penang... Er, no thanks !

Sydney gets the nod for me !!!

I have a question though, can you still apply for a WP on an "O" visa ? Just asking on behalf of someone I know.

Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka also issue multiple entry 'B' visas. Apparently the only place left in Asia that will.

"I have a question though, can you still apply for a WP on an "O" visa ? Just asking on behalf of someone I know."

Yes you can. You can apply for a WP on any type of Non-Immigrant Visa.

Correct, .........a place I formerly worked said that i'd have to cancel my O visa, and start all over again with a B visa as a precursor to a work permit - this is just plain inaccurate.

so don't believe everything people in authority tell you !

Stupid question but if an "O" visa entitles you to apply for a work permit then why the need to have such a thing as a "B" visa ? Particularly all the hassles that go with applying for one ! Why bother ? :o

Even on a Non-imm O/A? Or Non-imm ED?

There's a few other reasons as well, but yeah.

I've heard the same, but do you know anyone that's done it recently? In the last few months?

Because said person might not be eligible for the Non-imm O.

But surely it goes without saying that an "O" visa is easier to obtain than an "B" visa ? You dont need to find an employer for an "O" visa !

Yes, but you should have a Thai wife or Thai kids or a fair bit of wedge in the bank etc. etc.

They're only easy to get as some Consulates are lax, try getting one from an Embassy without the correct paperwork and you'll struggle.

Some places don't even need a letter from an employer to get a Non-imm B!

You see now in the UK , you can get an non-immigrant -O multi entry visa from a Thai consulate with only a letter of guarantee from a family member or friend . You dont even have to know a Thai person atall . Long way to travel but .... :o

i just received a 'b' multiple entry visa. i have 1 question. i understand i am to leave thailand every 3 months and the visa is good for 1 year. but, if i need to leave after 1 month or 2 months, not exactly 3 months, it's ok? since it's multiple entries, can i leave as many times as i want and the visa is good for 1 year?

thanks.

Yes, unlimited number of entries until the visa expires (12 months after issuing date).

Mr George

question:

They are talking about a new 3 years business visa ..

will it be the same setup as the existing one ?

The Indian lady has gone from the RTCG Sydney and the Thai replacement is as tough as nails. RTCG's in Brisbane and Perth are the go nowdays
