April 16, 201015 yr Watch the 'Quiet Man' downloaded and will watch tonight!- Motivation and inspiration only come when i get myself out to the countryside here. Trapped as i am in a new moobaan. - Forcing myself to notice the strange blooms and scents on my daily jog - getting myself so hungry that the simplest foods taste like heaven and the drifting cooking smells from the houses make me imagine the food. Generally speaking I only get inspiration after several nights of no sleep, sweating out the mental blockage. Only after I am utterly exhausted and then refreshed do ideas seem to form in priority order. - I have a curse which is I cannot sleep unless exhausted. Anything less than going to bed utterly shattered is a waste of waking time. These things dont always work to plan, just had my first holiday in 4 years... I can't get a productive thing done.. I have forgotten how to relax! Oh well back to work in 2 weeks or so... - mini projects are what keep me going. Work on garden, finding new hobbies: cheesemaking, chocolate making, jogging... As I can't do much about the BIG projects until things fall into place.. no point rushing them.. cheers Mossfin, your post got me thinking... now i need to force myself to work!

April 16, 201015 yr I bend over in front of a mirror and look at myself upside down. Then, I give myself a swift kick in the butt. I'm a terrible procrastinator and I work to deadlines, and I seem to need a push to get started. I know it is all psychological, and I know the reason, but knowing and doing are two separate things. I'm also lazy and don't really need the money from any of my creative endevours. I can write as much as I want and get it published. I can sell as much as I want to paint, and I can sell as many sculptures as I want carve. But, there just doesn't seem to be the motivation any more. Maybe that's just what happens when you reach your senior years.
April 17, 201015 yr It's a state of mind. Others can inspire/motivate, but you really need to find it within yourself. I've found that the main hurdle to my personal motivation is merely the commencement of the task/action in question. Once started, it can be self-inspiring. Set a time to commence the task and start it on time/without procastinating, and the continued motivation will generally follow as a matter of course - if you're anything like me. BTW, good idea not putting this post in OTB - look at all the flaming that the thread's avoided. E:T

Wholly agree Humph, But you have nothing that gives you a lift? A 16 1/2 month old daughter, but not for inspiration / motivation - just to relax and forget everything else. Have always had to be self-sufficient, guess it's a habit.
April 17, 201015 yr Just when you needed a pick-me-upEnjoy Against the Famine and the Crown I have versions by Dropkick Murphies and by Shileleagh Law. A touch different from this one. But should teachers be introducing the horrors of colonialism into a culture that claims never to have been colonialised?
April 17, 201015 yr I never thought I would see the day The one thing that makes me homesick - how could you !!

April 17, 201015 yr So, how's the post count going, Humph? I've just broken the free farsund free 'undred 'n firty free. So it's tickety boo at the moment. Thank you kindly for asking. And this afternoon the wet season started here in Saigon. Just a brief shower, no more than an inch of rain in half-an-hour. But tomorrow I'll be out running in the mud, so not everything is going well.
April 18, 201015 yr For inspiration I generally try to relax. A hot tub, a glass bottle of wine, a ciggie and a cone, while listening to Beethoven's 6th. I have a claw-foot cast iron bath tub out the back, surrounded by trees, which I can light a fire under and sit in while star gazing and feeling nature around me.....The Pastoral Symphony suits it's name so well. Depending on what the situation cum inspiration requires, I may choose Dvorak, Rachmaninov, or Vivaldi (Le Quatro Stagioni). Ben Harper, Bob Marley, Natalie Merchant can be played, but generally they are for relaxing without inspiration....and they would be accompanied by bourbon, not wine. I'm generally laid-back, so motivation comes from deprivation for me. Alternatively, it comes from confidence in whatever was inspired during the hot soak. Bottom line is that inspiration comes from being moved, motivation comes from being inspired.
April 21, 201015 yr Author It's a state of mind. Others can inspire/motivate, but you really need to find it within yourself. I quite agree, not only the state of mind angle, but in my present position, I find the actions of others particularly motivating, because they are letting me get on with it and sorting the pickle into a half decent salad and so the finding it within yourself, is particularly pleasing.
April 22, 201015 yr For inspiration I generally try to relax. A hot tub, a glass bottle of wine, a ciggie and a cone, while listening to Beethoven's 6th. You eat icecream in the hot tub?
April 23, 201015 yr Not an ice cream cone. I will not elaborate on this forum. Really? So Ken and Humph were right?
April 23, 201015 yr Not an ice cream cone. I will not elaborate on this forum. Really? So Ken and Humph were right? No, they weren't...it's the very common phonetic abbreviation for a "konichiwa girl". I'm suprised at the three of you for not realising that in the first place....what do you take me for?
April 30, 201015 yr I have one key major thing that motivates me. But i cant tell you what it is. It would make you blush. Or me. Or both. Well.. at least one of us would end up blushing..so its just better not to say.
April 30, 201015 yr Go out and dance with the elves by the pale moonlight... It's always inspiring even if one of them doesn't invite me home...
