I wish there was some safe way, or some device on the market to test those shower water heaters. I also hope someone tracks down whoever installed this one and makes sure he never installs another the same way.

Such a sad and avoidable story!

The City or some government agency should certify the installers who put in these electrical shower units or be available to inspect and certify them after they are installed. Does anyone know of an electrician who is capable of doing these checks...I have a couple of these units in my house?

For the deceased RIP. For the OP there are devices they just not used and 95% of so called electrician in Thailand are a joke.

I think the problem is not only in water heater but in general relation to electricity here in Thai. I also was havy electrocuted when I walked along the street under a havy rain.

My condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. A sad and avoidable tragedy.

Make sure the water heaters are properly grounded. I installed my own grounding rod and grounded the water heater to it. Just because a green wire exists, doesn't mean it's hooked to anything.

My condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.

Apart from fact that many properties have no "Earth" I hope the Shower Unit is fully investigated, I have said this before and I will keep questioning the safety of any product made in China, having seen some very doggy electrical goods from China I would advise all to be wary of anything made in China, the CE, TuV BS, EN & UL markings are often fraudulent.

The problem with that is it eliminates about 98% of the consumer electrical goods on the shelves of retailers anywhere in the world these days. Additionally, even most oEurop-Jap-Amer branded appliances are made in China. That would be fine as one assumes they have designed the and manufacture them to high safety specs...the problem is the flood of counterfeit name-brand goods from China found on the shelves that are in no way comperable in terms of safety :)

One very insensitive post and quoted reply deleted.

Please remember that everyone has someone who loves them and posting messages of this sort is not part of Thai Visa protocol. You know who you are !!

How sad , such a shame.

Last year we bought a rice cooker from Lotus in Korat, made in China of course. All was well for a few weeks ,up to one day the wife filled it up and plugged it in and got a great belt off it through both hands.

I opened it up and found that the wiring had no heat insulation and had melted to the element.

If the thing had been fused, that would have gone first, but as we know fuses are something of a rarity in Thailand.

There was another similar case of electrocution in a shower in apartments on Soi Buckhaw about 3-4 years ago. I am still searching for the link.

I remember... A lady was electrocuted in the shower and I think she had a burn mark on the back of her neck(?)... Then there was the electrocution in the 7/11 on Walking Street near Soi 16.
