University lecturer complain red shirts try to search students' test papers

Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University vice president Komsan Phokong Monday lambasted at some red shirts for trying to search a vehicle packed with students' test papers on the Navanakorn Road.

"What right do they have to search a vehicle of others?" Komsan asked.

He said the test papers in the vehicle had been collected from test centres in the Northeast.

"If damages were done to the test papers, we would have to hold exams again and the cost will be in the tune of millions baht," he said. He then added that the vehicle so far managed to speed away before the search took place.

Komsan said many of the university's vehicles would have to carry test papers to the university's campus in Nonthaburi soon.

"We hope the red shirts will not interrupt these vehicles," he said.

Thai king addresses new judges

BANGKOK (AFP) -- Thailand's revered king spoke on national television Monday, advising a group of newly appointed judges to do their duty for the nation with honesty and commitment.

"Do your job with honesty. In this country there may be some people who forget their duty. You should be an example by working honestly and properly, your job is very important," King Bhumibol Adulyadej said.

The 82-year-old monarch did not refer to the current political crisis in Thailand where anti-government protesters have mounted rolling demonstrations since mid-March.

The king addressed the judges at the Bangkok hospital where he has been staying since last September. He has made few public appearances since then.

Thai king speaks for first time since protests broke out

BANGKOK (AFP) -- Thailand's revered king spoke on national television Monday for the first time since anti-government protests broke out in mid-March, addressing a group of newly appointed judges.

"Do your job with honesty. In this country there may be some people who forget their duty.

You should be an example by working honestly and properly, your job is very important," King Bhumibol Adulyadej said.

The 82-year-old monarch spoke to the judges at the Bangkok hospital where he has been staying since last September. He did not refer to the nation's political crisis.

"Working honestly will boost the country's progress and serve as an example for citizens, for civil servants and other people.

It will help the country to live in peace and contentment," he said.

"You should help maintain justice. If you can strictly follow your oaths, it will help the country remain orderly," he added.

"Being honest is not easy, there will be many temptations."

Thailand's opposition has asked for an audience with the revered king, who has intervened in previous bouts of civil unrest.

Anti-government protesters have mounted rolling demonstrations that have paralysed Bangkok's main retail district, triggering threats of a crackdown by security forces.
