Ever looked into Hemp?

I did when I was younger but I much preferred Speed. Does that make me a Big Pharma shill? :)

For the record, I agree with Krauthammer.

Even if we never needed another drop of oil for fuel, we would still be drilling for oil.

I take your point. But those are by-products and probably not worth mining for just for them.

I wonder if there was a cheap alternative to petrol, if the cost of extracting oil from the ground would prohibitive just for plastics etc. I suspect that cellulose etc (from plants) might suddenly be very inviting to those same industrial plastic factories.

A very comprehensive presentation.

I have just come from watching the news on TV and a breaking story reported was the "top kill" operation has been deemed a failure.

Ever looked into Hemp?

Many of those big corporations don't give a <deleted> about the environment.

By the way I was watching the "Live" stream last night of the BOP, and there was some kind of boom. Lot's of debris was suddenly in the view, not sure what it was.

Maybe the guy that nuked the World Trade Center has been at it again.

I suggest you go out and watch your grass growing.

:)

I hope their next plan of attack works.

Pity we can't just wedge Harcourt onto the top of the leaking top hat thingy. :D:)

We have had quite a bit of rain lately so it is growing very rapidly. Much faster, in fact, than your grasp on reality. :)

You are the perfect example how well indoctrination and brainwashing works once you join the army.

Alex:

We better behave ourselves. Mr. Never Die is getting upset. :D

Ok, let's get back on topic, ha ha!

It seems that the only option now is to drill another hole which they are doing.

Same they did 30 years ago to cap a leaking well.

Why keep us busy and watching the containment domes, pipes into pipes, and top shots/kill.

I guess it would not be well received if they said the leak would go on for another 2 months.

:)

There was a good interview with one of the rig hands and his description of various problems encountered, equipment failures, personal conflict, operating procedures and those bypassed, during his time on and escape from the rig.

As has been noted by the experienced oileys from the beginning, it will come down to human error, and probably several vs one or two. The procedures, methods, and standards are there when it comes to equipment, services, and personnel, but this episode will come back to haunt several people who overlooked, ignored or were lax in the performance pf their jobs. The pollution, lose of equipment are massive, but to be responsible for the lose of human life because of human error is more tragic.

did anyone see the interview of one of the bp execs stating that the men working working really hard from 7am to 4pm. I can not believe they are not working 24/7 as sunlight is not an issue 5k feet under water anyway. so was he talking of a partucular task or is that the union work schedule for this job?

I got the idea that he was talking about the workers on shore.

Appears a lot of the marsh lands are already covered in oil.

Once this grass dies it is gone for good.

Also many workers there to clean up the Marsh areas seem to be getting ill.

At first BP CEO tried to claim it was food poisoning....More is coming out here on the news now.

Seems it could be linked to the dispersement chemicals that were passed through quickly & used.

^mee finks you are right.

Typically he seems to fit the bill for you're typical rubbish talking corporate @hole. He needs to shut up and fix the oil leak. simple.

Watching CBS & CNN yesterday was quite depressing.

The pictures of the wasted shorelines & the dying birds.

Can only imagine what going on underwater with the sea life.

Seems it is also headed for the Florida pan handle & small glob are already washing up.

Once it rounds the bend it is up along the eastern coast....Then ???

Also this illness associated with the dispersement chemicals is making folks nervous.

Back when the Valdez crapped its pants they did not allow it due to the salmon.

At its worse this could really affect food supply in a meaningful way.

Before it get's to the Atlantic it will probably destroy this...

http://www.pennekamppark.com/reefinfo.html

What makes the coral reefs of the Florida Keys so special? Well, for starters, the Florida Keys Reef Tract is the only living coral barrier reef in North America, and is the 3rd largest coral barrier reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Meso-American Reef in Belieze). The reef runs roughly 221 miles down the south-eastern coast of Florida, paralleling the Florida Keys from Key Biscayne off Miami down to the Dry Tortugas, 70 miles west of Key West, from 1 mile to 8 miles offshore. The proximity of the reef (just a half-hour boat ride from land); the warm, clear water from the Gulf Stream just offshore; and the fantastic richness of life found here makes the reefs of the Florida Keys one of the most uniquely beautiful and accessible wild areas in the country.
