Mother Of All Gushers Could Kill Earth's Oceans

Featured Replies

Watching CBS & CNN yesterday was quite depressing.

The pictures of the wasted shorelines & the dying birds.

Can only imagine what going on underwater with the sea life.

Seems it is also headed for the Florida pan handle & small glob are already washing up.

Once it rounds the bend it is up along the eastern coast....Then ???

Also this illness associated with the dispersement chemicals is making folks nervous.

Back when the Valdez crapped its pants they did not allow it due to the salmon.

At its worse this could really affect food supply in a meaningful way.

I guess this could of happened to any of the major oil companies, anyway, its happen to BP. I'm looking forward to my next trip back to Australia just so I can throw rocks at the first BP service station I come accross.

Obviously some people didnt do their jobs properly here, if some of those responsible were the ones that died then som nom na, but something tells me the real people responsible for this probably havent even been on a oil rig or are that far removed from one its not funny.

The amazing thing about this oil substance is how much people are willing to sacrafice to obtain it. We've seen wars started over it, we've seen deaths becaue of it & now we are seeing how a portion of the worlds ocean is being destroyed by it. I wonder how larger portion that is going to be? Sad times, this is definately a GAME changer.

I guess the question that comes back to each and every person that uses oil, "How much extra will you pay to ensure that Oil is safely mined? " This must serve as a warning to all mining companies worldwide & perhaps Authorities and Laws need to be vamped up to really take control of rouges or companies taking shortcuts etc.

And put a stop to environmentalists forcing the drilling out into deep water. If this happened at a more manageble depth it probably would have taken a day or two to fix. Like you say, we need to do it as safely as possible.

I am not so sure of that.......

Regardless of depth is seems the oil field they have tapped is enormous. I always think of a volcano when they describe it.

Not unlike one that hits a lava flow & fountains till depleted.

It is uncontrolled now & I do not see a big difference if it was in 100' rather than 5000' of water for the most part. They do not have the technology to cap a vent. That seems to be the biggest problem.

As for neverdies question...... I wonder how much all of this will eventually move Natural gas more to the head of the line.

Have you ever tried hitting a golf ball 5000 feet? :)

Have you ever tried hitting a golf ball 5000 feet? :)

I never play with balls ...... :D

But it is not the distance the ball needs to travel that I was referring to it is the size of the hole & whats in it volume & pressure wise.

Similar in a way to the Icelandic Volcano....

See how it has potential to alter the way air travel is conducted?

There is no known quantity....In geological time that volcano could vent ash for hours or years.

It too could change a game or two.

Anyway, as I said, its too late to pass the buck game now, but when I get to the first BP outlet, Im gonna give those fekkers a good serve, might even take a dump on the counter.....fekkers :):D

Man it does not look like water anymore....

Looks like Florida is next .....They say 10B for BP on Florida if/when hit.

But even if BP has $$ to buy reimburse everyone...Some things can not be bought.

Wonder what lay below? I was reading the disbursement chemicals use up the oxygen in the water.

Effectively killing any life forms that rely on it.

This was emailed to me this morning:

A Drop of Rain » Blog Archive » Rumor Schlumberger Exits Deep Horizon Hours Before Blowout

The article is a bit old, but there's some pretty disturbing stuff inside.

More gas for the fire:

"According to a report issued by frightened, yet faithful, documentary filmmaker, James Fox, interviewed from the Gulf's Grand Isles by Mel Fabregas on the Internet's Veritas Radio Show, "There is a complete media blackout" on news coverage broadcast from the region.

"They are arresting people with cameras and anyone off camera that is caught talking to a reporter," Fox testified.

Another reporter told Fox,"You call this a free country? Right here, in the United States of America, there's no freedom of press. There's no freedom of speech. They're closing down the airspace above the oil spill, so reporter's can't fly over to determine how bad these oil plumes really are."

Suspicious pieces of this deadly puzzle feature Halliburton, the world's second largest oil field services company, headquartered in Houston and Dubai, whose negligence is blamed for the timely and profitable explosion.

Three weeks before the "natural gas leak," the George Bush/Dick Cheney 9-11-linked Halliburton company negotiated the purchase of the world's largest oil-spill cleanup firm (Boots & Coots) at the exact time keen observers on Wall Street--financial intelligence agents at Goldman Sachs (GS; often called "Government Sachs")--unloaded 44% of their stock in BP."

Have I seen that MO somewhere before? :)

Only a facebook Email at the moment. Will get back with a link.

Regards.

Yes that was a big one...When I first heard it was Halliburton who made the faulty slurry pour.

It is as if Goldman Sachs was suddenly mentioned in any financial deal gone bad.

GS has their finger in everything financially twisted.

KBR/Halliburton everything else including all the contracts in Iraq/Afghanistan.

:)

Three weeks before the "natural gas leak," the George Bush/Dick Cheney 9-11-linked Halliburton company ...

OK, I know Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton before becoming VP (and had to divest when he took office) but what is George (W or HW?) Bush's connection and what does Halliburton have to do with 9/11? Did they plant the nuclear bomb underneath the towers?

The USA dam_n near invented the Oil Industry and has some of the most prestigious and amazing scientific research programmes in the world ( MIT etc ).

The President is making a fool of himself by saying quite correctly what a total WORLD SCALE disaster this has become, and simply trying to play politics and business, by laying the responsibility on one company to stop it.

By all means go after BP after the event, but surely any self-respecting government should mobilise all of it's nations talent to stop this thing rather than bitch about compensation day in day out and for what appears to be business, politics, and " blame " issues, not lift a finger.

Just more loony mudslinging.  :)

some loonies just can't accept reality :D

I wish the gov't had the attitude of solving the problem first, and worry about the rest later. If the pipes in your kitchen spring a leak, what's the first things you do? Stop the freakin' leak. The government (both Dems & Republicans) remind me of one of my bosses. If something doesn't go perfectly he focuses on who is to blame. He shows no interest in why something happened and how it can be avoided in the future, he just wants someone blamed and punished. I attribute this to a lack of self-confidence in his own abilities so he tries to set someone else to take any heat that might result from the goof. Sometimes things just go wrong and there really isn't anyone to blame. But figure that out AFTER fixing the problem.

Just more loony mudslinging. :)

A financial expert in this field, are you Mr Naam?

I wish the gov't had the attitude of solving the problem first, and worry about the rest later.

Pretty simplistic except for a couple of facts....

1...They cannot stop the leak anymore than they can stop the erupting volcano in Iceland

2....The rest as you call them have all lost their livelihood & that is the least of the rest..There is far worse about to start like dominoes tumbling...they may not take kindly to waiting till later.

Untrue.

I see..........So they are able to stop it but....? Just waiting for a break in the saltiness of the water or?

They have more important things on their mind or?

Yeah ummm hmmm they can stop that leak as you call it any old time they want eh? :)

A small nuclear device down the leaking bore has served the Russians well on more than one occasion.

Now you're just trolling. Nobody is that clueless - even you.

Now you're just trolling.

Facts for you & yours is always considered trolling.

The fact at this time is that they cannot stop the gusher.

So next they will try to drill another relief well to take some of the pressure off of the gusher. Whether or not that helps remains to be seen....in 60-90 days

Notice the emphasis on helps? Not cures the gusher.

Another fact...We are now entering hurricane season..

When does your fact...umm become fact?

The one that claims they can in fact stop it?

Or are your facts speculation?

Nobody is that clueless - even you.

Never underestimate the enemy. :)

The attachment (if it works) would be funny, if this wasn't such a disaster. I don't think any of us realize the true scope of the problem. Calling it a political issue is nonsense.

The US has to share some of the blame for what happened, but that arrogant p***k of a CEO doesn't help things. He wants his life back? How typically British. With his red-cheeks and baby-face. He should be grateful they don't publicly lynch people anymore, but it's not over yet.

Recently, I've heard that many Brits have their pensions dependent on BP. Now that may be political to relieve some of the pressure being applied by the US, but I don't trust anything or anybody. If it's true what they're saying, the real truth has to be much worse.

Sometimes, it's good to be old.

All true IMO & I mentioned from the start it is a game changer.

We will see where it goes & what it destroys ultimately.

Sad thing is while it may be fine to be old & leaving this world ( I know you were probably tongue in cheek on that one ) but we should leave it at least as good as we found it if not better. Folks with children know this first hand.

Will all of you yanks on here please write to your Congressmen and tell them to DO SOMETHING about this on a national level................ :)

Hi guys, it seems some have decided that its ok to flame and to post nastiness in OOB. Frankly, this is supposed to be a more loosely moderated forum. But if you can't have a civil discussion without resorting to off topic name calling and flaming then maybe it needs to be more closely moderated after all.

Lets all recall that we are adults here and that the intent of this forum is to discuss things generally not allowed in General. That does not mean you can start with the flaming and nastiness.

Well, I have faith that if enough effort on a national scale was applied, something can be done. You guys have the science, but seem to lack the political will to make it happen.

Its such an important topic to keep 'open' please don't allow BONE HEADED comments to have it closed. If you have a personal issue with another poster, please take it to PM.

How hard is it really? :)
