Gastroenterologist Recommendation

Featured Replies

I have had chronic diarrhea for a week--no other obvious systems. It's time to go see a gastroenterologist. Any recommendations for a doctor, preferably at Bumrungrad?

I highly recommend dr Varocha Mahachai at bangkok pattaya hospital. She diagnosed my colon cancer that the doctors at bumrungrad missed for a year.

At Bumrungrad I very much like my gastroenterologist -- Veerakit Apiratprachasin.

I find him to be middle of the road in that he doesn't ignore symptoms, but also is balanced in not being overly aggressive (in other words, not going for the most dramatic tests until really indicated) and yet being attentive to the problem.

For example, when I had your situation last July, the first doctor at Bumrungrad wanted to go immediately with a colonoscopy. She didn't really listen to my past problems related to almost lifelong IBS. I had the impression she just always wanted her new patients to have a colonoscopy. I thought that was excessive. So, I simply changed to Dr. Veerakit. He listened, was very good at discussing the options with me, and agreed that jumping to a colonoscopy was not warranted...yet. Antibiotics, stool tests...twice, and cured without the excessive test. His English, BTW, is excellent...part of his residency (as I recall) was in British Columbia and perhaps some time in the States, although I can't remember that detail...New York State, I think.

Thank you , Phetarol, for your recommendation. I did go to see Dr. Veerakit and found him to be exactly as you described. Hopefully, he has cured me.
