Best Fish & Chips In Bkk ?

After trying the fish & chips at The Dukes & very disappointed just had to continue my quest for really good batter dipped Icelandic Cod.

As most of you know finding this stuff outside Scotland is extremely difficult but after procrastinating about a year I decided to try the fish & chips at "Cafe Fish" 5th floor Emporium, not too far from Burger King.

Jackpot!!!!!! Great prices & great food.

For sure I will be going there anytime I want the best fish & chips in Bangkok.

Have you tried the chippy on soi 23 (near bottom of cowboy)? Some people say its gone downhill, but was OK last time I went...

Or my personal favourite (and one of BKK's best kept secrets, but i'm leaving the smoke soon so nevermind), the little Thai style (but farang food) restaurant on soi 11 opposite cheap charlies, prices raised a bit recently, but still best fish and chips I have found in in BKK. Also have tacos, great steaks, and kebabs if i remember correctly.

Anyone know any others?

I've tried the one at Cafe Fish a couple of years back - sure wasn't cod, and it was soggy too.

In Singapore lately, I've been eating Fish & Co which serves huge portions of dory, perfectly cooked - but unfortunately there aren't any in Bangkok. The nearest would be The Manhattan Fish Market, which is pretty good too, and has locations in Seacon and Central Chaeng Wattana - I am assuming the one in Central World won't be back for some time...

Good fish and chips in BKK? I haven't found anything yet but I've been called a picky snob when it comes to my F&C.

Most places either have good fish, or good chips. Rarely both (and 'french fries' are not chips at all!)

Bradmans on soi 23 is good. Its not obvious, but you can choose your chip style to suit and there are a couple of options on the fish (snapper, baramundi I recall). They are on ChefsXP so you should be able to check out the menu there.

Offshore on soi 23 is variable but cheap. I find it works best with a bowl of gaeng hed to dip in ('fusion cuisine'?) and generally skip the chips as you don't get a good batch that often there. I think its because the oil isn't kept up to temperature and if you don't time things well you end up with a soggy pile.

I found the Bus Stop up Soi Nana on the right side does very good fish and chips.

(genuine cod? Yeah, Right) but it is well cooked to order and a reasonable price as well.

It is not a girly bar but a restaurant.

The fish and chips are excellent in the Dubliner. But unless you ask them specifically, they serve the fish on top of a mix of tartare sauce and spinach, meaning you get soggy batter. I ask for mine on the side.

side note: its horrible when you order chips and they have a taste/smell of fish on them because the shop uses the same oil for both fish and chips.

shops that have a seperate fryer for chips are the best.

- i'm vegetarian and its nice to have a portion of chips occasionally, (no fish).... but its such a 'let-down' when they smell or taste of fish.. (and I cant eat them)

side question: so, does anyone know the best chips in bkk?

Oh my god, cafe fish is absolutely revolting and over priced. Dukes rocks just about every dish on the menu. Someone already mentioned chippy on soi 23, that's where you want to go. Scottish judgement? Guess only Scotts would care.

Had ones salmon at the Dubliner, salmon was overdue for a long period.

Send back to the kitchen and got another fish dish, got both on the bill.

Took me 15 minutes talking with the staff before they credited it.

As this was a high pottential risk to get serious sick, the Dubliner is a no go for me.

Back to the fish and chips, Offshore will do for me (i am not a specialist on Fish and Chips) but chrispy, soft fish and nice taste for a reasonable price is good enough for me.

Have to say that this happening (Dubliner) a while ago and i don't know if the food "Chef" has been change.

That's on the east side of Bangkok, on Srinakarin Road heading towards Bangna. From the center of the city take Petchburi Rd straight until it becomes Pattanakarn, and continue until you hit Srinakarin. Turn right and Seacon Square will be about 3 kilometers past the next set of lights on the left side - it's huge, should be about the 4th largest shopping center in Thailand, so you won't miss it.

The offshore bar. The cod can be fantastic and the sausages are great (not the cheap ones though)

Go to early though and it will be awful because they don't constantly heat the fat in order to save on energy, at night though when they are busy the fat is always on and so the food is cooked properly.

Whoosh what a lot of blather.

I decided to try out Manhattan Fish after some posters mentioned it.

If you get a table at the back you have a nice view of the atrium.

Great salad bar just a notch down from Sizzler.

The fish & french fries were ok. Liked the buffett style garlic toast. Got so full of salad had to take 1/2 the fish & chips home. Only real downside was no tartar sauce.

Still liked Cafe fish better. Different experience.

ha ha ha. My reaction is just the opposite. I find the Duke's massively disappointing on virtually all their menu items.

I will give it a wide berth.

I know we have some devotee's - based I guess on their CM shop where maybe the owner has time to monitor what goes on.

The Emporium Branch is really really second rate.

I'm sure they'll do fine without my custom.
