Abortion is legal in Thailand, the problem with this clinic it seems, is that it was unlicensed to perform abortions.

Yes, it's legal, but isn't it true that an abortion is difficult to obtain, and that it can only be done if the mother is in medical distress?

No .

http://www.th4u.com/abortions.htm

"According to the Thai law (in effect since 1956), abortions are legal only when the pregnancy threatens the womans health or results from rape or incest. Under the recently revised (but yet published) regulations issued by the Medical Council of Thailand, "health" includes mental and emotional considerations as well as physical conditions. The determination that a woman qualifies for a legal abortion under that criteria can only be made by a medical doctor licensed in Thailand."

Looking at the pictures I can understand that clinic not being able to pass an inspection, some aspects seem to indicate a none sterile environment.

I believe an abortion should a procedure conducted after counselling where all options should be discussed, but if a woman then wants an abortion she should be able to have one, otherwise they will use lesser safe methods to abort.

My beliefs are based on my own mothers experience as a young nurse back in the early 50's, she often had to work on gynaecology ward, most patents were victims of the thriving "Back Street Abortionists" who probably were medically untrained and used unsterilised knitting needles, many of these patents would turn up at hospital only hours after the procedure and some never made it through the night.
