After numerous attempts over the past few years I now accept defeat in trying to quit the booze alone. I can't even stay away from it for 24 hours.

So I thought I would try checking into a detox centre for a few days to try and kick things off.

Unfortunately these days my finances are not what they used to be and there is no way I can afford anything fancy - like these centres set up for wealthy expats. I can speak reasonable Thai so could get by in a Thai hospital.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm pretty desperate. (I am writing this with my left hand as I fell over drunk last week and smashed my right wrist up which required major surgery and a metal plate) :)

thanks :D

How about Wat Tham Krabok on the Lob Buri road, turn left right about Km 131.

It's a tough cure but seems to work for lots of people.

Do a Google for the place.

A sometimes frequent poster here, "Goro?" went there then wrote a book about it. That's not his log-in name, but something close to it.

I go up there now and then to chat with Monk Gordon, the black American monk who's been there about 30 years. Good guy, at least worth your time to go up and talk with him. He usually has 5-10 farangs there at anyone time, Europeans, Ozzies, and the occasional American.

The Buddhist monks offered him what other treatment centers couldn?t. The odds were stacked against him. All his previous attempts to quit his addiction ended in failure. Why should this time be any different? The temple program was harsh but he quickly realises that his body and mind are rapidly healing. He dares to hope that maybe this could really work.
