Simple Internet/Network Connection Via Adsl Router

Featured Replies

I just bought a DLink Wireless G ADSL2+ 4port Router.

I have only 2 computers (1 Compaq and 1 HP) using the Internet via this Router.

Yesterday I successfully connected both computers. The Compaq was connected to the Router via a wired LAN (coz I didn't want to use the wireless on my Compaq). My HP was connected to the Router via wireless. Both could surf the internet well.

However today my Compaq couldn't surf the internet via the wired LAN. I don't know why. So, I had to turn on the Compaq's wireless and surf via wireless connection.

Anyone got any idea why I could use the Wired connection yesterday but today I can't? Did I do something wrong? Please help!

Thank you.

i forgot to mention that I'm running Win XP and all the lighting indication on the ADSL router shows that everything is functioning normally.

Have you tried the repair function in Xp for the ethernet?

It is very rare that wired connection won't work but wireless will. That rules out a lot of issues.

Assuming the wired ethernet port hasn't been disabled in xp I would say the problem most likely is with the cable.

Try a different port in the router and failing that a new ethernet cable.

A restart on the router wouldn't do any harm either.
