Hi All,

Having come from Europe recently and also being interested in getting a Fortuner, I am a little dissappointed in certain aspects of the safety spec. At this early stage I wouldn't waste my breath asking the dealer about an options list because they'll probably just say "oh but you can buy a dvd player for the money and that's better" ...... oh well, TIT.... :)

Anyway, principally what I am disappointed with is the number of airbags and the lack traction / stability control (from what I can understand), even in the top of the range model. I have read also with much interest the thread on the fortuner disc break upgrade..... but that is another days discussion.

Has anyone made such enquiries, and indeed has anyone actually had these options added ...... or does anyone know if they are even available...... before I send my poor wife into the dealer and have them laugh at her, as Thai's so often do :D

Many thanks in advance......

The new fortuner has only two air bag's not good I must admit. TIT. The new up grade on the brake's is standard. include's brake assist++ They are fantastic, stop's on a pin. Also the 4x4 auto has VSC & cruise/C Not available on 2 wheel drive. Go into dealer's and pick up there brochure look in the back sorry it's in Thai, and it will give you all the speck. Just ask them what it mean's but it's pretty self explanatory. Option's are in a different book/brochure. If you do buy screw them into the ground for as many extra's as you can get. Free. BY the way the manual is now only fitted with a 2.5 lt engine.

Thanks for the reply - that's encouraging!

If I go for one, it'll either be the "Nuvi" or the "Sportivo" - 3.0L Deisal, 4X4 Auto.......

Gotta go pick up that brochure then so it would seem!

Thanks again for the input.

Fredob - just to follow up further - do you mean the disc brakes all round upgrage is standard???

Its one thing I have noticed on the CRV - they have rear discs, as standard, it seems.

new brakes where introduced on Fortuner November 2008, larger and more efficient . Still rear drums. Braking distance from 100-0 kmh is impressing 43meters. Not many suv beat that.

Fedob - Katabeachbum,

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

Just been down the dealers - spoke with a guy who appears to be quite knowledgeable and pracitcal..... well my Mrs soke with him and translated, although I think he spoke English anyway.

Getting to the point - well the Sportivo is "not available" anymore, as Fredob just pointed out. To be honest, I was sort of leaning toward the nuvi anyway - for the extra 30k I think you get alot of usuable and handy kit in the sat-nav, blue tooth, and cruise control (I think the sportivo had the dvd player?). The sportivo looks good, it must be said, but I do not know if there was really anything of substance in it, over the nuvi? But, if there is a new sportivo coming out in a couple of months, I may well just wait for that as it is bound to be "upgraded".

Regarding extra airbags - no can do...... mai dai .... but all the VSC etc. is all there listed in the brochure as Fredob mentioned.

Gotta spend the evening translating the brochure now :)

THanks again.....

Have a man at Toyota and he tell's me there is a new sportivo coming Sportivo has different suspension TRD 1+inch lower and shock's no sat nav but can be added by the time you get all the bit's on same price as the Navi. It dose have the full body kit standard though. dvd mp3 full work's hi fi. You can phone Toyota BKK 023861000 and ask about new Sportivo or any other info but they are a bit backward in coming forward about new model's, ask for there technical advisor speak's good english. Hope this help's.

I may be wrong, but being on my second new Toyota as far as I can see there are no actual "options" as I knew them elsewhere (ie one thing fitted by the factory instead of another), but only accessories - ie something you buy or get the dealer to give you free which is fitted as an extra by the dealer.

On second thoughts there is one factory option (and only one!) - colour!

Your right you can have the TRD suspension it's about the only option, If you can call it that, the rest of the bit's are as you state accessories, they will all be fitted at the dealer's, not at Toyota's.

I too am amazed to hear the term "options" - I'ver been trying to get an idea of options on either a pickup or pickup based SUV and have drawn a complete blank on any options. I'm now considering getting a second hand model and fitting my own

they r all running very tight logistics in LOS, with no options. Not even BMW or Benz has options. In addition Toyotas logistic is extreme with only 4-5 exterior colors and one interior color.

600k units a year on thousands of dealers on 63 million people does not allow options.

Fortuner, I believe cruisecontrol only comes with navi, check it out if CC is important to you.

e.g. The Triton?

It is manufactured here or at least built and is available in Australia with a range of options factory fitted that are not offered here - including the super-select transmission system.

the same goes for the Vigo - is you live abroad te options are there fitted in Thailand - you ca't even get a tray back!

The IMV2 platform is due in 2014 - this will be the next major change for the VIGO, Innova and Fortuner.

However there will be a minor change for Fortuner later this year ( between Sep-Nov), and a more major update around Nov-Dec 2011 in order to comply with the EuroIV standards, and compete against *every* other brand's brand-new platforms at that time.

IMV 1 was introduced in 2004, and so far one million Vigo and Fortuner have been exported from LOS.

So they don't have options in Australia with a third of the population, or NZ with under a tenth??
