I would like to use PCLinuxOS 2010 on a PC that's all ready set up to dual boot

Two operating systems , so I want to find out how to do this ..

The PC currently has Two separate partitions ...

1. Partition - Windows XP Professional Media Center version ( 187GB )

2. Partition - Windows Vista Home ultimate ( 269GB )

I would like to install PCLinuxOS on partition No. 1. leaving partition No. 2 alone , so I then will be able to dual boot both Windows Vista Home Ultimate and PCLinuxOS

Ive downloaded and burnt to a DVD the PCLinuxOS

so now I need to find out how to install PCLinuxOS onto Partition No.1 leaving the other Partition

still working .

any Ideas or Comments on PCLinuxOS - most welcome

Thanks TL :jap:

I am not sure whether you can install Linux on the first partition

Hi, After some messing about and nail biting I managed to install it on the first partition , and it seems to run well, so now the fun starts , I would love to hear from any one else using PCLinuxOS 2010

Thanks TL :jap:

Hi dave, As a total new comer to Linux this is going to be an interesting road to go down, my first task is to try and set up the internet connection using my CAT CDMA MC727 USB modem , the modem is recognized by the internet connection panel, and asks for a 4 digit PIN number, this is where I am currently stuck

Normally when setting up the modem in Windows or Mac I use the following ..

Telephone number ... #777

Account Name .... [email protected]

password ..... cdmacat

putting in any of the above still does not let me go past the PIN window , and says PIN not correct

So I am now searching for an answer that will let me connect to the internet using the MC727 modem

all good Fun :D

Well, I do have absolutely no glue of the whole subject (PCLinux, CDMA USB modem), but when you say

4 digit PIN number

the SIM Pin comes to my mind, or even a Bluetooth PIN (well, obviously not applicable here), but not a PHONE number...

welo

Goto PClinuxOS.com and click on the forum - they have great support - its almost a family type forum. search that forum and most likely you will find the answer already done. I don't have connection exper with any devices just the LAN which is easy as 123. Welcome home Thailife We' ll see you in the forum.

Thanks guy's

Well Ive now managed to connect to the internet using my CAT CDMA USB modem , and here's how I did it .. ( thanks to another forum poster )

Go into PCC ( configure your computer)

Select Network and Internet > Set up a new network interface

Next select - Alolog telephone modem (POTS) - click next

Select - Manual Choice and click next

Now choose which serial port your modem is connected to ( Mine happens to be at /dev/ttyUSB0) and click next

Select Your Provider ( if you are in the US click on the triangle's so that NO Provider is selected ) and click next

Now set up Dialup: account options

Connection Name: Alltel ( that's what I named mine ) call yours whatever you like

Phone number: #777 ( should work for Alltel and Verizon )

Login ID: Your 10 digit phone number ( the one you use when you pay your bill )

Password: Your Password

Authentication: PAP/CHAP ----- Now click next

Dialup IP Parameters: Automatic ---------click next

Dialup DNS Parameters: Automatic -------click next

Gateway: Automatic ------- Click next

The next screen will ask you to wait - when it reappears select your controls ( Mine is connect at boot and enable traffic accounting ) --- click next

Now it will ask: Do you want to try the connection now--- YES---- click next and WAIT

You should now be connected to the internet ---- at least I am -----click FINISH
