Does anybody know any good plastic surgeons in Bangkok who are terrific and not terribly expensive? I know they are out there- would appreciate any tips!

I just had a horrible string of unprofessional experiences at Bumrungrad -which I will write about in another post- when I went there for a series of routine medical visits.

But one thing that happened was they found something in my mammogram and want to do a breast biopsy. Having been sent to the urology department to have my mammogram read (?), I am planning another trip to Thailand and have since found a breast cancer doctor who comes highly recommended to do my "needle" biopsy (as biopsies go, not a really awful one) which I will do at Bangkok Nursing Hospital.

Of course I have no idea whether I have a malignancy yet; my intuition says I don't, but of course I will be careful and thorough. If I do, it is an ultra-early detection situation as the "speck" they found that they want to check is minuscule.

If I should find I have cancer, I was told lumpectomy + radiation or mastectomy are my choices. I've decided that I would just have both boobs completely out, implant replacements and no radiation. Of course I am going to listen to my doctor's advice, but have read that if it is miniscule, a plastic surgeon can actually do the mastectomy (having consulted with the breast oncologist of course) and can do the implants at the same time. (I prefer a matched pair to one fake and one real, plus if there is cancer in one, I dont want to be checking constantly for cancer in the other.)

If I have this choice, I'd like to find a plastic surgeon in Bangkok who is known by the local glamour girls in Thailand as one who does a great job for a good price. Heck, I'd like to get to know a good plastic surgeon for a few other fix-ups down the road as well. I see these Thai women who've had excellent work done around and I can tell they are not rich- these great, inexpensive plastic surgeons have to be out there. I don't want to go to the famous guy at Bumrungrad and pay more than I need to pay.

I don't have insurance- this will be out of pocket.

I live in Indoneisa so I don't have Thai contacts for this info.

Any recommendations MUCH appreciated!

For the elective stuff, if you do a search on this forum you;ll find plenty of first hand recommendations. The best doctors are not, however, inexpensive, at least not by Thai standards. You get what you pay for and in the case of purely elective cosmetic surgery IMO you are better off not doing it than trying to do it on the cheap.

Note that you'll need to search by the specific procedure you want as the best face lift docs are not necessarily the best for rhinoplasty etc etc.

And not all that the glamour gals do involves surgery. Depending on your age and type of problem, simple things like botox and fillers can work wonders.

Now your breast reconstruction is yet another story and for that you do not want someone the "glamour girls" etc go to for cosmetic work you want someone who specializes in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Your breast surgeon should be able to provde a referral and indeed, it is best that the 2 surgeons coordinate closely as the way the initial procedure is done will impact on reconstruction options. For which reason obviously should have the plastics consult before the mastectomy.

But here's hoping this will not be necessary. As you probably know the majority of breast masses are benign.

Good luck

You do not always get what you pay for- yet many cheap and nasty clinics that have non qualified surgeons. 6000bt for a new nose---- 6000bt for lip----- 20000bt for new breasts are some of the claims. Short cuts obviously need to be taken. I have seen some people been butchered then need the services of a Private hospital to fix at a far higher rate.

I think the OP wished for specific recommendations Sheryl---------Forget Yunhee- cheap and nasty yet better than most down the road clinics. Some girls get good work.... Breasts, nose, lipo OK- nothing special or artistic however.

Forget Sompan as a lot of bad press about him.Clinic on Soi 3 Suk...

Dr Kunachak does a lot a Farangs and Glamour girls- look him up on google- he does OK Thai prices if u get a Thai to get a quote for you. Farang price he as expensive as the best private hospitals. I do not like the fact he he doubles or more the price for Farangs.... He advertises heavily on the internet and any search in Thailand will probably take you to him. He is good yet in serious demand.

Your best bet is to find out which doctors specialize in which procedures from Bangkok Hospital and all good private hospitals. Then see if they have a private clinic then get a price. Do not bother until u get a price as I have heard some obscene prices that just waste time. Typically they should charge 30-50% less in their own clinic and have the private hospital on stand by if problems happen.
