Manhunt for Phuket maid murderer

PHUKET: -- Police say they know the identity of the man who stabbed a house maid to death at a luxury home Thalang last week and expect to make an arrest “soon”.

The murder was reported to Tah Chat Chai Police on Thursday night by 50-year-old Khwanjai Aroonjareornkul, owner of the luxury home near the border to Sirinath National Park where the victim was found.

Ms Khwanjai is also the owner of a well-known apartment block in Phuket Town, Thai Rath reported.

Tha Chat Chai Police Superintendent Sakchai Limchareon said three of four CCTV security cameras at the residence caught images of the killer, including the moment at 6pm when he calmly slashed the throat of 43-year-old Sunee Premprasert and left her for dead.

The man then rummaged around the home in search of valuables to steal. Finding none, he left empty-handed.

The suspect is described the as Thai man in his early thirties, about 165-170cm in height and with a mustache.

He was wearing a long-sleeved, light blue shirt, jeans and white canvas shoes at the time of the attack, which was accomplished by scaling an electric fence next to the victim’s living quarters.

Police have released still images of the suspect to other police stations, but there have been no arrests so far.

They declined to release more information for fear of jeopardizing the investigation, but said they expect to make an arrest "soon".

Living in Kata quoted to me that this occurred in Thalang.

Just to set the record straight, whilst it happened in Thalang District it actually happened in Nai Yang, Sakoo. Just half a Kilometre from Sirinath National Park & the beach.

Even with an electric fence & CCTV a lady was stabbed to death at a house in Nai Yang last Thursday night.........

Please take care, it's low season again and there are some desperate people out there. :(

Presumably the murderer used the maid as a way into the house to burglarize it? Or was he there already and she interupted the burgulary?

So do I understand this right? Police have released still images of the suspect to other police stations, but not the name of the suspect to other police stations?

If the police are advertising the fact they know who the guy is, then releasing his name doesn't jeopardize a case? They are either bluffing in hopes to scare the guy into turning himself in, or, they are trying to ensure they get the arrest and not another department. (The police in Thailand get paid largely by the number of tickets and arrests they make per department.) As always, greed supersedes public safety.

Great quote from a poster at PG:

"Soon". Does it mean the BIB have to know first how much the reward will be before making an arrest?

Police were showing a photocopies of the suspect taken from the CCTV footage to all the locals here on the beach at Nai Yang and asking if anyone recognised him. They were also lining up casual building workers and comparing them with the grainy photocopies.

No luck so far !

The general feeling is, that whoever has done it has left the province.

But it has left everyone in the community with a sense of unease.

PHUKET: -- Police have released images of the man they believe is responsible for stabbing Sunee Premprasert and then slitting her throat and leaving her to die in Thalang on Thursday.

Tah Chat Chai Police duty officer Watcharin Jirattikarnwiwat told the Gazette this afternoon that police were continuing their investigation, but believe the suspect was no longer on the island.

Ms Sunee was murdered after a man scaled an electric fence to gain access to the luxury home where she worked as a house maid (For previous report, click here).

Police have numerous CCTV images of the killer, including those that show him calmly slicing Ms Sunee’s throat before continuing his search of the home for valuables.

In the end he found none and left.

Police declined to give more information for fear of jeopardizing the investigation.

I almost don't want to mention the obvious, but... Why isn't there much of an uproar about this case? The woman was a hard working maid. Is it because they have CCTV photos? Or the more obvious? Was it was because it was; Thai on Thai and "robbery" was the motive? No reward posted by police? Just questions, I don't have any answers...

"including the moment at 6pm when he calmly slashed the throat of 43-year-old Sunee Premprasert and left her for dead."

It would appear this guy has no aversion whatsoever to cold blooded murder & is quite possible he has done it before or will have no qualms about doing it again. Reminds me of a show on TV where murderers calmly relate the gruesome details of their dastardly acts.
