professor Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 I would like to know Thai regulations in regards to short-term work assignments. Such assignments include: 1) Professional Event Organisers managing a 5-day trade fair in Thailand 2) Management consultant advising businesses in thailand for 2 weeks 3) speakers giving a seminar in thailand for 1 day...... A) Must a person working on such short assignments apply for a VISA when his passport allows him 30-day permit to stay in Thailand as a tourist? What paperwork must he apply for? C) What jobs are foreigners restricted to do even for such short periods? D) If a person is given a 1 year permit to stay in Thailand for other reasons (eg to teach English in a Thai school, to study in a Thai school) than to work, must he, in order to carry out some paid work while residing in Thailand, apply for special permits? For example, can a UK national with a 1-year visa to teach English in Thailand work for a Thai hotel as a management consultant for 5-day part-time? E) Can Thai companies pay for business services to a foreign company? What I mean is can the same English teacher ask the Thai hotel to pay her through a UK-based company so that there is no records of business between her and the Thai hotel? Will the Thai hotel have any problem in doing that?
Indo-Siam Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 Here is a temporary link to Form 11 - the "temporary urgent work permit" form that was mentioned earlier on this thread: Form 11 Image loads slow, and doesn't print out exactly correctly - maybe I can clean it up later. The rules: 1. 15 day max period 2. Not allowed to receive any specific (local) payment for such work – it must just be part of your normal job. 3. Can be processed at any Labor Department Office, within one hour. 4. No government fee (my firm will charge 1,000 baht to run these through the system) 5. Can be obtained with any entry permit - including 30 day entry on arrival. I'd say this is a total waste of time - and the fact that there is no fee means this is not a profit center - which means Thai officials could care less. But - if chronic worriers want to sleep peacefully - here is your method - and I'll be happy to collect 1,000 baht per head to give you peace of mind (and if someone hires my firm to obtain this "insurance", they will receive great service - whatever my personal thoughts on the necessity).
