We can get together in a couple hundred years and see what has come to pass. The majority of the present world religions seem to be dragging their feet , toward acceptance. Maybe those in favor should start working on the minority groups like the Skin heads, KKK, etc, first.

Change takes time. I am pretty clear Thailand will do this once all of Europe, North America, and some Asian countries do. I don't see them as a leader in such things. Of course countries controlled by religious fundamentalists won't change. In general younger people are much more open to legal gay marriage than old people. Its a shame so many people alive now are never going to get what they want, but that is the nature of civil rights struggles, ultimately it is about a better life for future generations.

That's the main reason I want this change for my home country, I don't live there and I doubt I would marry there, but I do wish that someday gay kids growing up there will live under equal laws so they don't have to make the rude discovery that they are second class citizens in their own country.

Related topic. What is the current status of post surgical Thai transgender people being able to change their sex on their ID card? I think I remember that they can do this. If that is true, a Thai person who was born a male can grow up to legally marry a man. But trust me, most of us ain't willing to chop anything off to win these equal rights ...

Supplemental question you missed JT: do you believe this topic should be moved to the gay forum?

YES

That's totally wrong. The idea was to attract the opinions of ALL the members here. Gays are a small minority here and in the world. We rely on support of the vast majority, heterosexuals, to come around to supporting equality for minorities. We can't do it ourselves and the opinions about this from everyone matters a lot. There is no point in polling gays about this, over 90 percent will always say yes, the other 10 percent or whatever will have their eccentric reasons for not wanting equality, you can never please everyone!

No on marriage. Yes on civil partnership.

Why not marriage? Separate but equal is NOT equal.

From Wiki

The phrase "separate but equal" has been more recently used by supporters of same-sex marriage [6] to argue for full marriage rights for same-sex couples, in lieu of civil unions which is often the suggested alternative

From the U.S. perspective which I can't help but having, separate but equal was completely unacceptable and completely unconstitutional in regards to RACE. Why should gay people be singled out for less than full equality?

Civil unions are in no way a legitimate substitute for gay marriage.

They fail on principle, because - as America should have learned from racial segregation - separate is never equal.

To the people voting against marriage equality, No Nothing, may I ask why?

I don't doubt your right to your opinion, but to me it just feels very rude. I can't imagine wanting to deny equal rights to any minority group, even a minority group I may not like very much. I think I would have to actively HATE a minority group to even begin to want to deny the same rights as everyone else, and I don't hate any group in that way. Even then, my higher self would know that was wrong anyway.
