We aint kids ya know

True, true.

I must say that to broaden our horizons, understanding different culture and ways of life can only be for the good.

My original suggestion, last year, was to have a button in your profile to not show any number of forums. As an example, at the time I lived in Suphan and I had no intrerest in Phuket, and sometimes found the posts in that forum annoying. Just meaning that if I am not interested in a subject, it doesn't show in the "View New Posts"

Therefore, its not restricted in such a way to force a forum into a shadow world.

Chris P does a great job of moderating, and he's well supported by the admins. We're big boys; we can take care of ourselves. Some of the apparently straight (or slightly leaning) posters are more than welcome. We understand that you other folks might not understand the subject matter well; we may flame back if we think you're showing too much ignorance (e.g., about anal intercourse, as if straight couples didn't do that sometimes).

I vote for no control. Thanks to the OP for the poll, but before the admins act, there should be a poll on the gay forum, as well, especially since many regular gay posters don't see the Bedlam threads.

PeaceBlonde, I agree with your post, but ....

<snip>(or slightly leaning)<snip>

Can't I be a guy from Sydney, who was brought up in a bit of a social revolution and I celebrate diversity.

I am not gay, but I certainly respect a large number of gay people, and their contribution to society, some I have had the pleasure of meeting, others of course I would liked to have met.

This is why i think its a good idea, I would'nt want to read about this at all, whether it straight or gay and I would expect and hope that all posting like this should be in separate sections. :o

Flame away but although i've nothing against gays i still don't wish to read about topics regarding these matters, i would like to have the chance to skip them, along with Mattnich regarding other topics which would have no interest to me. :D

Why is there a problem with posts in the gay forum?  :o

I'm not against the gay forum but i think if they had a special forum with password access thenb they could talk about all the nasty stuff :D:D and it would keep the pisstakers and trolls out. :D

My thoughts exactly. Just wanting to know what other TV members thought.

Sorry 'bout the buggering bit.

The reason why I didn't vote. :o

Please! Will you read the original text. It is not intending to deny anyone access to the 'gay forum'. It is an attempt to assess how many TV members would prefer it to be available to those who wish to contribute without it being in the face of the others. It's a bloody question! Not a slight on your sexual preferences.

It's not bloody control!

What is a 'Leather Daddy' and what is a 'Slave Bottom' ?

thx

Exactly...

That's why all this is moot. If y'all want to learn about 'Leather Daddies' & 'Slave Bottoms' by all means cruze on into the Gay Forum and expand your horizons as it were. Leave it open w/out a password and, leave the real raunchy stuff to forums that specialize in Bar Boys... :o

It would be very hard to be a 'Leather Daddy' in Thailand - its so hot here. Your packet would get so steamy.

But; 'il faut souffrir pour etre belle'.

I rarely wear trousers at all in Thailand.

That is the whole point! You can take care of yourselves! So.... you don't need me in there. That is the object of the poll.

It was only a suggestion.

I don't think they would want to voluntarily ghetto-ize themselves - though perhaps you'd better ask them.

Non-gays who participate in the Forum don't get too infantile in their discussions. Perhaps if they did then they might feel differently.

Bloody 'ell this is hard w*rk. The original post was not intended to "ghetto-ize" (whatever that means) people but to ask the forum (in general) whether they want to participate in the discussions. They (the gays) have already been allocated their own forum (thereby 'ghetto-izing' themselves) but there was no mention of this at the time.

Oh, I've had a bad night.

Jeeeze...you're just encouraging them, Moog..

A lot of guys 'go commando' nowadays, that means no underpants whatsoever.

I don't do that though - dewdrop problems.

It would be true.

However, my problems are insignificant.

It would obviously be biased but you have the ability to do it.

Sorry, javenram; that was a typo mistake by me. I didn't mean to say 'control' so I guess I'll go back and edit my mistake.

Erm, in what way is the gay forum 'in the face of the others'? Normally, anybody who doesn't want it in their face, will not access the forum. Besides, is what's currently discussed in the gay forum different from what is being discussed in other forums? We mention our partners; you mention your partners. We talk about relationships; so do you. Maybe I'll try to remember back 30 or 40 years, as a straight, Southern Baptist youth minister. Was I ever really disgusted at the mere mention of a gay relationship? No.

Is the purpose of this poll and the idea of limiting access to those who want it, primarily to protect a few overly sensitive straight people who don't even want to accidentally wander into one thread or one post on the gay forum? Is that why the word homo-phobia was coined, using the Greek word for 'fear'? Are straight men not brave or bold enough to witness a civil conversation? I'll answer that - I think most straight men (nowadays - it is 2005 or 2548, after all) are aware that certain activities do occur. I question, however, whether the posts in the gay forum are any more 'explicit' than the posts that straight men make elsewhere on ThaiVisa.

On that note, a poster or two seem to be asking if the gay posters wish to discuss 'nasty things.' This is ThaiVisa; there are standard guidelines about what can be said, and how it can be phrased. Surely the moderators do a fine job across the board. I don't see that gay people want to talk about nasty or explicit sexual details any more than the straight people do (perhaps less). I was out at a bar last night, late, with some old-time gay farang men, and after several hours, noticed that there was hardly one explicit comment, even when discussing barboys. It's generally a private matter that one doesn't discuss among friends in public.

One of the common misperceptions about gay men is that we're militantly in people's faces, trying to convert the straight men. No. On the contrary, we're constantly faced with straights who try to convert us. 'Live and let live.'

Thank you all for your kind consideration. :o

jayenram, sorry to be making this such hard work to moderate, but what's the point? I went back and read the original post, and mistakenly thought originally this was to be of some benefit to the gay posters. But now I'm thinking it's to protect the virgin eyes of the straight men here. Biased, you say - do you mean that a poll on Bedlam, which is probably 90% straight, would be biased in one direction, and a poll on the Gay Forum, which is not even 90% gay (and where homophobes currently have access to polls, if they wish) would be biased in some other direction?

Gosh, it's late and I'm sleepy, but let me try to guess: have the moderators been receiving complaints about posts by gay men? For example, did I stir up a tempest in a teacup by asking whether barboys could be discussed on Bedlam, since there was a bargirl thread already on Bedlam?

If anything, I find that on an open forum (even one dedicated to gay issues), the gay men are not (for example) talking about anal sex to begin with, and then a straight man will post either a really childish remark about anal sex, or an assumption that anal sex is all that gay men ever do. I mention that here to point out that we hardly ever mention it ourselves (even late at night in a gay bar!), but we end up discussing it because straight guys talk about it.

Well, thanks; maybe I'll get some sleep now. :o

I voted NO...

Reason - I think sometimes a hetrosexual input is needed, there has been some good discussions in there recently, and without it resulting into a flame fest....

Can't see that creating a "gay club" would have any positive advantages for all members.. like someone else said.. you don't have to read the posts..

As long as the posts are kept sensible, and not graphic .. i.e subject to the same rules as on all the other forums on TV (which it is) then no problem.

If gay posters feel the need to go and talk about their sexual exploits and swap tips etc, well then I'm sure there are other forums for that.. :o

totster :D

Jeeeze...you're just encouraging them, Moog..

- dewdrop problems.

:o:D:D

Its simple really.....

If you dont like it then dont look.

After all the title does say GAY PEOPLE IN THAILAND. This should be a bit of a hint as to what is being discussed in said forum

Not having a pop at you matey just think it is totally unecessary to have a resticted membership :o

I'm a NIMBY and don't apologise for it!

I wasn't born in the 21st century.
