I always renew my retirement extension and single re-entry permit ( for emergencies) two months early.

If I need to travel in the 'two month period' of the 'old re-entry permit can I use that one. They never CANCEL the old one and they dont seem to relate to any extension?

They directly relate to your current permitted to stay stamp (as that is what they keep alive) so no you can not use an old re-entry permit for an extension of stay that has been superseded by a new one.
