September 23, 201015 yr Hello! last year i was on the search of the cheapest lobster restaurant ,all across thailand, and recogneized, that lobster prices in chiang may are often nearly the have price then in BK sometimes price diffrence of over 1000 bath in the same weight class, how this can come? is the lobster not always in season? i ask this questions, also on german thailand boards, but got no reply, maybe the locals can help,to find a good price quality deal in fish restaurants! thanks!
September 23, 201015 yr Not sure I would want the 'cheapest' lobster available. Anyways, if you know where Pantip market is on petchburi, just before there near the intersection close to platinum mall there used to be some lobster/seafood restaurants on the street.
September 23, 201015 yr Lobsters are sea dwellers, Chiang Mai is a day or so from the sea,so the freight cost is quite large. Hence lobster will be expensive in C.M. They also require refrigeration on their journey, adding to the cost. Maybe they are air-freighted, adding more to the cost.
September 23, 201015 yr The best lobsters come from cold water. Down here in Phuket about all you can get are the tiny little "Phuket lobsters" and they're not cheap!

Ah one of the problems with not visiting the PP for pirate software and dvd's, being a bit out of date. James, those places have been gone for at least 3 years if not longer.
September 23, 201015 yr Thanks rgs for the update. The last time I was down that way got my wallet knicked and needless to say I haven't been back.
September 23, 201015 yr I'm with James on this one. Lobster doesn't have a particularly strong flavour and can be quite bland if not cooked properly. You are better off spending a bit more or sticking with Shrimp.
September 23, 201015 yr Buy it off the pier at Sattahip. By the box load with ice. Prices are very reasonable.
