Homebuyers will be protected

BANGKOK, 5 October 2010 (NNT) – Thai Home Constructions Association (THCA) has been established, highlighting on the importance of consumer protection.

According to the President of the Thai Home Constructions Association (THCA), Mr Sitiporn Suwanasut, the main objective of the new THCA is to underline the significant aspects of consumer protection in homebuilding industry. The association will help elevate the whole industry’s standard and enhance its creditability, and make consumer protection one of its top priorities; consumer complaints will be taken seriously.

A consumer assistance fund will also be set up to reassure buyers that the house they pay for will be delivered. In case consumers find themselves in a dispute with a homebuilder, the Association will mediate the dispute, making it fair for both sides, as well as minimizing the effect on consumers. In addition, advice and tips on building an energy-saving home will be given, according to the President.

He further noted that most consumers tended to encounter many difficulties when dealing with homebuilders, particularly in terms of delay or incompletion of the construction. The THCA hence would aim at changing builders’ attitude, focusing more on impartiality and social responsibility, rather than concentrating only on competing with one another.

Wonder who these homebuilders are - developers or the contractors they engaged, or just a small construction firm employed by the home owner?
