Transport Ministry Considers Automated Parking System at Suvannabhumi Airport

The permanent secretary of the Transport Ministry has recommended that an automated parking system be installed at Suvannabhumi International Airport to solve corruption.

The ministry expects the project would cost somewhere between 55 to 100 million baht, which could be recouped within a year.

Permanent Secretary of the Transport Ministry, Supoj Saplom , who is also the chairman of the Suvannabhumi International Airport Space and Transportation committee, has announced that the committee is planning to submit a proposal to the Airport of Thailand or the AOT, recommending that an automated system be installed at the airport's parking lots.

Supoj expects the project would cost somewhere between 55 and 100 million baht.

The permanent-secretary claimed the system will solve corruption and disputes.

He expressed confidence that the AOT will be able to recover the cost of the system within a year.

However, in the case of the parking concessions already granted to private companies, the ministry will review all of the contracts.

Meanwhile, the ongoing negotiations will be suspended for the time being, pending examination.

There has also been a report that the AOT will cancel a contract with the Parking Management Company and deploy security forces to return the parking area to the AOT's control.
