blink.gif I am trying to read the most recent reports from Penang for the Non O marriage visa "multiple entry". I am 54 years old and a US citizen. I live in Phuket and I have a sailboat that I have to sail to Langkawi to get a 6 month extension on the boat's cruising permit for Thailand. The boat is in my name and has a US flag. We are going to sail to Langkawi this week but I need to know now whether to go to KL for the marriage Non O multiple entry visa or sail another 24 hours south to Penang to get my marriage visa there. My Thai wife and our 3 year old daughter will be sailing with me to Langkawi and Penang if it is still possible to get my visa there. I have had 200K baht in my Thai bank account for the last two years but now it has dipped down to just over 100K for the last month since we paid our rent one year in advance. Please can you let me know if it is possible to do this visa in Penang and do I need to top up my Thai bank account before leaving Phuket. Also, I hope that by having my wife and daughter with me at the Thai consulate, it will make it a little easier to get through the paperwork. Please let me know if there are any other documents required like house rental contract, rent receipt, utility bills etc. Since I work out side of Thailand in the US merchant marine, I travel often outside of Thailand so I need the multiple entry visa. We have been living in Phuket for 5 years now and this will be my third Non O marriage visa multiple entry since I manage to squeeze almost 15 months out each one. But I have always gotten my visa's at the honorary consulates in the US in New Orleans and Miami and they never ask for a Thai bank book. They only want to see the round trip air plane ticket to Thailand.

Do not believe it would be granted in Penang but few recent reports from there. KL will approve with proof of funds at 100k or higher and marriage certificate/copy of wife ID or passport.

It looks like something must have happened in Penang in the last few years. I was there 5 years ago and found them to be friendly and very helpful but maybe they just got overloaded with too many farang. I think it may be better to leave the boat in Langkawi and take a ferry and bus to KL instead of wasting two days at sea to get no results in Penang.

As of Jan 2010 Penang were issuing multi 1 year 'O'....marriage cert, wifeys card copy, 100k in Thai bank,....google New Banana Guest house in Chulia Street and give them a call/email....they will confirm if possible or not, and suggest you do it through them, they only charge 50Baht if you stay at their rooms

I made the mistake in Sept of staying at Banana' guest house which is a rat hole.

I wanted a multi O, same reason as yourself and same money in the bank. They said you need 400k in the bank so I went with my Thai wife to KL on the 'NICE' bus (aptly named actually) and there was no problem.

Go straight to KL, avoid Penang apart from the scenery, it's good 'old time' architecture and good people (apart from Banana's).

I emailed Banana and was told 400k too, read other threads about banana being shit hole - went to KL and straight forward, easy, 1 yr Mutli O based on marriage.

100k in bank book

Copy wifes ID

Copy Tabien baan

Copy marriage certificate. (I took original too)

Passport and Copy

Hope this helps

Dont forget they process 1 day collect the next, always queues so go early.

(I went end of August).

Do the wife need to be present at any stages and/or the copies of the documents to be signed by the wife too? thanks :jap:

Her document copies should be signed and dated. An extra item would be a note from her asking that a one year visa be issued (not often asked but worth having).

Thanks, one last question, do you think it will be acceptable to present already signed copies or the wife would have to be there in person to sign in front of the embassy representative?
