Has The Budget Airline Bubble Burst?

Featured Replies

Just booked my third Adelaide-Bangkok return flight this year, spent ages each time surfing the net for Air Asia/Tiger/Jet Star etc deals.

Qantas/BA has won the job each time, this time knocking the rabble off by a whopping $200AUD. This includes an Adelaide-Sydney domestic connection.

I'm flexible with my dates too, quite happy to spend time hanging around airports between flights. The last time I flew Air Asia/Tiger it took about 48 hours with my Chiang Rai domestic connection.

And with some budget airlines now charging for all the 'extras' such as a visit to the toilet, a glass of water, carry-on baggage and the like, the fares are going to be seen as more and more equal in the end.

In Europe now (and I think being discussed in Oz) the coming thing is high-speed train travel. No two-hour wait before the flight, city-centre to city-centre, making the total door-to-door trip as fast as by air.

Of course, the Adelaide-Bangkok-Chiang Rai jouney by train may require exceptional breath-holding capabilities, but maybe one day ......

Wasn't there some talk in the past year or so about Ryan Air looking into standing flights? Even cheaper tickets if you can stand the whole way?

Oh, why ask questions when it's easier to just google it?

Just O'Leary drumming up more publicity. It would be against air safety regulations.

I hope all the budget airlines go bust. Poor people should stay at home.....they only embarrass themselves abroad. ;)

Bucket and spade holidays for the masses I say!

:P

Having lived in an easyjet destination, I agree with you.
