Cheeky link. To a website offering riding tours in Thailand

...well, I had to host it somewhere and RTH was more appropriate than my own design consultancy site (Note: opportunity for another cheeky link but not taken this time!)

:D

Hope you enjoyed the article anyway and thank you for mentioning the nature of the hosting site as that's a great bit of unprompted advertising. Most grateful!!

yeah right! The word 'cheeky' has such terrible connotations. Btw, it's not necessary to add 'less' to the end. The 'rustic' part takes care of that.

Hang on! I've just checked out the prices on that website. Can I change 'cheeky' to another word?

Definition of ' rustic'

1. An inhabitant of the country, especially one who is rude, coarse, or dull; a clown. [1913 Webster]

Yes you are correct it does describe you SO well.

Strange you had to refer to a dictionary to define the word when a 'qualified'  :whistling:   teacher like yourself should really get with the times and check out the online version. As most of us know, it refers to an urban environment but spin it anyway you please if it makes you feel a little better about yourself.

Now for all the faults you listed above, at least I don't sit at a table at the Hua Hin Bike Week, procede to stuff down the food and drink bought by the Thais I was with and then leave without contributing a single Baht. I wonder how Webster's would define that?

I meant 'rural'. Now look, you're putting me off.

Typical Allan, turns even the most innocent post into a slag-off match.

Heard that too... I want!

LOLZ! They are REALLY cheap! Like ~300 Baht or something and have multiple functions. A bunch of the Thai guys have them now and they were quite useful for marshaling the 70-bike ride to Khao Kho last weekend. If you want one let me know and I'll try to find out where they're sold. :jap:

The wider seat on the Versys is luxury indeed! Love it!

Will post up a full trip report on SSR and GT Rider soon!

Happy Trails!

Tony

I noted the comment on the Versys seat and had a question. I ride a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 and based on the specs I read, the Versys seat sits about 5" higher than the Vulcan. I'm 5'8" and the Vulcan seat is at a great level for me. Anyone have experience with both of them who can comment on the difference in height ... especially for those of us that are a bit shorter.

Thanks

David

Hi, anyone with a Versys had speedo problems? I took mine in for it's 1000 k service, with 910k on the odometer,it came back with 578k showing and since then will not show over 85/90kph when I'm out on the road.

The mechanic at Kawa Pataya will not listen/understand the problem, it appears normal in traffic, he took it for a test drive, but I know when I am doing 130-150, where I can, the digital speedo display will not show over 90kph. I have ordered a mount for my gps to double check , when that comes I will know how far out it really is. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a problem ?

The odometer clocks up the kilometers ok and seems to work fine, but high speeds are the problem,

cheers,

PP

Are you sure it is 90 KPH .... not miles?

At my Yamaha I can switch the speedo-meter from miles to km and visa-versa of course.

Chang Noi

Doh! Thats exactly the problem! Never thought of that, I assumed it would only have kilo's, how are you Chang Noi? I am the Versys rider you met at the Kawa shop, Pattaya last week, hook up for a ride some time?,

thanks for the tip,

PP

hahaha I did not even calculate it .... just joking .... I had it once driving a Porche (imported from the USA) in the Nethelands, I thought "That's weird, why is everybody driving so slow? Even at 100kph I am passing everybody!".

Would love to make a tour to Chantaburi but a bit allergic problems at the moment. Tomorrow of to BKK (by car) to pickup the 'WR Lowering Kit" for the Versys. I have a appointment with a guy from the Kawa-dealer to talk about testing it on their test-versys.

Locally produced engine guards available for the Kawasaki Versys!

sdc13545SSR.jpg

These are modeled after the SW Motech engine guards but are a lot less expensive and actually feature an improved design, borrowing from the locally produced Ninja 650R no-cut frame sliders these engine guards feature a steel cross bar that connects both sides for added strength.

I'll post up more pics as soon as I receive mine!

Engine guards look great, do you have prices for those? I don't know what brand it is but the local show. Versys has some really ugly ones, and theyre crazy expensive too.

White looks great too.. Hmmmmmmm.... Whose white Versys is that?

Dont know how it works on the "V" but on my mates ninja 650, just hold down the left dash button while tapping on the right button and it switches between km/h and mph...with ignition on offcourse...

^^^ That looks more like purple if you ask me?! Each to their own ... :whistling:

The white is super nice though. I'd also do the black headlamp. Gold wheels ... hmm pass on that.

Quick question about tires, I am looking for dual compound ones - sticky on the outside, hard in the middle so they don't get square when I do a lot of city commuting. I read a review about Bridgestone Battlax BT023, sound great but never yet seen in Thailand. Someone told me about Pirelli Angel ST - sound great too actually. Anything else? It's going to be 95% on road touring / commuting.

FWIW my mates who have tried the Pirelli Angels on such bikes as Triumph Tiger 1050 and Honda VFR 800 have not been terribly happy with those tires, saying that they tend to slide through the corners. Having seen the way you ride (and that was when you were wearing hospital shoes) I think you'll probably want something a bit stickier than an Angel... Have you tried Diablo Supercorsas? Absolutely amazing, confidence inspiring tires!

^^ thks Tony I will take your advice to heart and steer clear of the Angels - too bad, I thought the the angel imprinted in the profile is very cute! So it's either BT023s or Supercorsas... leaning towards Pirelli this time ;)

It's a little embarrassing to admit but what I thought was terrible squared out tires on my bike turned out to be... not enough air! Doh! facepalm.gif. Pumped them to spec today at Franz' garage and bingo - bike is back to its normal, hot, curve-loving self.

Well the Versys might have arrived already a long time in LOS ... mine did arrive yesterday!

I was told I could pickup my new motorbike 20 Jan but I was called yesterday late afternoon that I could picup my motorbike today. Well my Thai bankaccount was not ready for that so my wife did buy me a new motorbike.

Yes it is a bit high bike for a small guy like me but with the installation of a “Lowering Kit” the bike is just save for me. So this morning I picked it up and I took a test-drive to a big parking place to test the feeling and steering of the bike. I moves very easy. Tried a emergency stop and ABS is working fine. After that it was time for a trip back home via the new motorway and the bike feels like a easy & comfortable driving bike. Going 130km/h was easy and comfortable (although a bit rough suspension). The only thing is that the air-flow goes exactly into my open-face helmet.

Driving back I realize I did forget 1 test …. Could I pull the bike up if I would fall? To test I did drop the bike just before entering my house. And you know what? Only a few small scratches on plastic and … yes it is easy to pull the bike up his wheels again.

Congratulations on your new machine, Chang Noi, happy day finally arrived. Bit surprised that you thought the suspension harsh, maybe need to adjust it a little for your weight, mine seems perfect as it came, but I am 90 kilos and a very little bit.

Enjoy,

all the best,

PP

By the way Kawasaki Pattaya have engine guards in stock, 3,900 Baht, dont know how that compares to earlier

post but it seems reasonable to me. They have some butt ugly luggage too which I will swerve.
