Hi All,

Just got a Pajero Sport but do not like the original wheels, was thinking on 20" wheels from LENSO and lower the suspension a bit.

Does anyone here owns a Pajero,Fortuner, Vigo or similar car with 20" wheels that could give me recomendations/advice on wheel/tire brand and spec, price, sports/lower suspension, etc...I'm looking for original stuff, no copies, and reliable shop with good service and technicians.

I live in Khonkaen

Thanks in advance,

Fabio

Hi,

I have Lenso 20" wheels fitted to my fortuner.

I don't have the tyre size as i'm not in Thailand at the mo.

I don't have any problems with the drivability or comfort levels from the fitment of the wheels, in fact the only problem i've had is the whee,l just touching/scraping the front fender, but by trimming a peice away solved that problem.

I also had aftermarket shocks & front brakes fitted as i felt the Fortuner neede better braking & was a bit unstable on corner entry at speed.

20" on Pajero Sport is approaching the limits for ride quality, but good results can be had with the right tire choice, and/or with aftermarket suspension.

Unlike the Fortuner there's absoltely no problem with rubbing, even with oversize fitments, so the key to maintaining ride quality is to go up in both tire quality and size.

The most popular fitment is 265/50R20, which maintains the factory rolling diameter and overall width. If you want to go this size I would recommend the Yokohama Parada Spec-X, or the Yokohama AVID SUV's (The Parada's being the best), in order to retain some level of ride quality. The wrong tires at this size can become teeth-rattlers.

The next fitment up is 275/55R20 - in this size it's probably a toss-up between TOYO's and the Parada Spec-X (the Toyo's are probably 90% as good as the Parada's but just 60% the price). The increased sidewall height will throw out your speedometer by a few %, but there's noticably better ride quality than the 265/50R20. In fact if you're coming from factory 17's you probably won't notice much of a ride quality decrease at all (but will notice improved handling/traction)

The Daddy of Pajero Sport fitments is 285/50R20 - this fitment looks faaaat, and sits somewhere between the 265/50R20 and 275/55R20's for ride quality. You're only real tire choice in this size is the Yokohama Parada Spec-X, and it's a good one - this is probably what I'll be changing to in another 10k or so :)

In all cases, to retain the best ride quality and lowest noise levels, you'll need to be replacing your tires when they're about 50-60% worn - after this all 20" fitments will start getting noisy and harsh.

As for suspension, AFAIK there's no such thing as a lowering kit available, but there are a number of choices for improving ride and handling, either with increased or maintained ride height.

There's two ways to approach it - shocks only or springs and shocks (springs only on Pajero Sport seems to be a recipe for disaster).

Shocks only will cost anywhere from around 15K (Robust stands out as a good cheap option) up to about 60k for HotBits. However the OME (Old Man Emu's) - a full shock & spring set (with optional poly bushings) from Australia is getting near rave reviews in the Thai owner's forums and appears to be very cheap at < 50k all fitted. This kit increases ride height by ~40mm/60mm, but has far superior handling than stock, and reportedly excellent ride quality, even with oversize 20" fitments.

Im running 275/45/20's on my Colorado and the ride is just fine, soon to be fitted are some 22's (20's need new tyres so might as well upsize), I expect these to be teeth rattlers.
