but it has to be said that at the moment , it is the failure of the moderate muslim majority to stand up and be counted , and the excuses put forward by the liberal and the politically correct that is causing so much anti - muslim sentiment around the world.

the sooner moderate muslims come out of denial and cure the cancer that is spreading within islam the sooner can the rest of us stop looking for bombs on trains and buses and looneys in airports and on motorcycles.

Think you are a bit OT here, cdnvic, although the writing of this story and its posting on Thaivisa does demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge, on the part of the author and his disciple Boon Mee, for Islamic culture.

I have worked in many countries where the predominant religion has been Moslem. It is completely normal that all shops and businesses are closed on a Friday.

The question that must be asked with this storey is not concerning the apparently violent reactions (unproven, unattributed and only hearsay: which is the same as saying made-up lies) to those who open their shops on Friday, but who is it - or what is it - that is compelling these shopkeepers to break years of Islamic tradition and open their businesses on a Friday?

Another question that could be asked is what is the state of business in the conservative Bible belt of the USA on a Sunday? Are businesses blessed from the pulpit if they choose to work on the Lord's Day - the Day of Rest?

Or do some of the sinners risk a bloodied nose from some of the more zealot congregationalists?

I simply brought up the topic again to show what's still going on in the south and 'am not blaming the 'entire religion'. The term 'Religion of Peace' was coined by your favorite President in a speach right after 9/11 when he made reference to Islam as the RoP. I believe he was being serious although a lot of folks took it as tounge-in-cheek.

and surveys of muslim male youth opinion done in the uk in the aftermath of the bombings there show that an alarming number (20% in one survey) support such tactics and have some admiration for the bombers .

i know that surveys often are weighted to support the opinion desired by the organisation commissioning the survey , but until rank and file muslims really do stand up , shout and be counted then it will become increasingly difficult to see these acts as purely minority driven.

worse though , is the fact that the reluctance of the average normal muslim to come out vociferously against those who have hijacked the religion for their own ends will only increase the appeal of right wing anti muslim sentiment to those who seek only the slightest excuse to take racist action.
