Psi Set Top Box

I am looking to install a new (fixed) PSI satellite dish and set top box to pick up Intelsat/PAS/PS 8, mainly for the ABC Asia network.

I also want to watch the Rugby Union, which is encrypted (Irdeto 2) - as may be some AFL games next season. I have ordered the smart card through ABC Asia, but am not sure what box I need to buy, ie one which will accept the smart card.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks

Check out the Dreambox receivers, especially the ones with PVR facilities,

My guess is the best games you want to watch will be at the dead of night?

This thread will give you some ideas

Your installer should be able to help you.

JSAT is a name that comes up quite frequently in the forum,

and they are one of our sponsors, so check for their logo on your screen.

Thanks for your response, astral.

I am very new to sat TV, so please forgive my ignorance. I thought that providers (eg PSI, True, IPM etc) required particular set top boxes "tuned" to the provider ie if you want PSI, you need to use a PSI-specific box.

Is my understanding correct, and if so, how do you "tune" the Dreambox to PSI?

JSAT unfortunately is not an option as I live in the sticks of Issan.

When setting up a sat box it will ask you what satellite your dish is pointing to.

It will then scan that satellite, using a preloaded list of the transponders,

and come back with a list of all the channels currently available, both TV and radio.

On my set up I have 4 dishes connected and close to 4000 channels potenially viewable. :D

Then you select, onto a Favourites list, the ones you want to watch regularly.

Now some channels will be free to air (FTA) and you can watch immediately,

others are encrypted and you need a card inserted to decode the signal.

Are you sure the Rugby is available on the C-band channels of Intelsat 8

and that from your location you will have a view of the satellite?

It will be pretty low in the sky, only about 10 deg above the horizon.

Has your provider for the dish done a survey to check the idea is viable

and recommended a dish size?

Thanks for the set-up information.

The rugby is part of the ABC Asia package (http://australianetwork.com/sportslounge/rugby_union.htm) , except it is encrypted whereas everything else is FTA.

There are a number of other farangs living in my Amphur who have PSI tuned into Intelsat 8, so I assume I should also be able to get it. But I will get the installer to check.

Cheers
