The old soc.culture.thai forum (about a decade ago) used to have some interesting threads on Thai history -- that's of course before the arrival of the Pickle King and his ilk.

John Sharman is a name I remember well, and there was a Thai lady academic teaching in the U.S. who was very insightful.

I think it would interesting to have that kind of discussion. Because TV is moderated the thread could avoid the rantings, etc.

Before we consider it we'd have to see alot of topics on Thai history popping up, and I don't see many. Feel free to open some though. We'll see how popular they get and go from there.

I think that is a great idea also, however it would involve discussing the unmentionables so I guess it would be canned at birth.

On many subjects that would come up in there I think you're absolutely right Harry.

I think if you can not discuss anything freely, it is without any value.

So either you have a few moderators, censoring things, even if they are true or to be discussed or

you really facing big troubles and maybe publicity (wasn't there a case in USA, a restaurant made some unproper promotion with a picture from the royal family or something like that, and it got a big case between Thailand and USA (god thanks Thailand did not declare war to USA :o:D )

So better make a forum about money laundry, pirating games, robbing banks, that all cause less problems......

By the way if someone know a good book about Thailands history, I would love to read it, if it shows both the good and the bad sides of history.

Hhmmm can talk about the Enormous crocodile that ate many thai's in the 1960's. The movie was horrid, but loved to know more about the real story.

One doesn't have to discuss the "unmentionables" -- and actually one of those is openly addressed in various ways by Thai history books and official websites. People who persist in discussing what is the equivalent of the JFK story need only check the web or the local library in the west. The answer to that one has been satisfied in my own mind and it is not nefarious.

However, the mods probably see a can of worms here...would require vigilance, but that seems to be the case on this forum already.

Too bad about the possibilty of people pushing things and making wild statements. Canned at birth might be right, and if so, I'll post any history stuff in the appropriate regional forums, etc.
