E Reader

Featured Replies

Hello I was wondering if I can buy an e-reader at the Intl. Airport in Bangkok as I'm leaving next Friday back to Europe. I've tried to find it on the internet but couldn't find any info about this.

I would prefer a Sony e reader but perhaps another brand is even better. I've been using the e reader from the first day it was for sale in Holland, but I sold it a week ago over here in Hua Hin as a friend of ours wanted to have it badly as a gift for his wife. Okay I can buy one in Holland but I was just thinking perhaps it could be cheaper getting one over here but to be honest I haven't seen any e reader over here.

Also not in the MBK in Bangkok so I'm a little bit afraid that there will not be an e reader for sale at the airport.

But perhaps some one out there can help me out with some more information.

Thanks in advance.

Petra

Sony told me that they do not sell e-readers in Thailand, have no plans to do so & will not service them. The only model I have been able to acquire is a Kindle & that was of course bought directly from Amazon & works well. Good luck in you search but I fear it will come to nought in Thailand.huh.gif

I can confirm that e-readers are not for sale in Thailand, Sony would not post one out directly to us either. Couldn't get them in K.L. either. We bought ours in U.K. Great machines if you can get one. You will have no problem downloading books for it in Thailand once you've got one.

I bought my Sony e reader in the Metro Centre, Newcastle in 2009 , Whilst here in Bangkok I had problems with it not switching off and draining the battery rapidly , I tried to have it repaired under warranty at the Sony shop in the Emporium, but to no avail . Was told there that the had no technicians familiar with these because the were not a product that Sony sold in Thailand When I returned to the Uk ,took it to the place I bought it and it was repaired , somehow I had a corrupt file on it . So in my opinion, you would be better off buying in Europe from a Sony outlet , at least then if you have problems , they can easily be rectified in you home country.

I have Ipad which also doubles as a E reader, it can use Kindle, Stanza and also the native I reader. I prefer Kindle as I can get good books from Amazon.

I have an ipad myself, its okay to read a book like f.e. in the plane, but when you read a lot only an areader like Sony is far better and relaxing for your eyes. As I already told I had a Sony ereader for more than a year but during my holiday over here in Thailand, we have a house in Hua Hin, a friend of ours from Hongkong wanted to buy it from me for his wife birthday. I did this as I can easily get a new ereader in Holland but I just was thinking if I migh could get one cheaper over here at he airport, but I had my doubts already because no one from the Thai people we know had ever heard from an ereader this in compare to the ipad everyone knows.

Anyway thanks every one for responding. I will buy one in Holland as we're leaving within a few days.

I just spent some time researching e readers- from what i can see the new Kindle 3 is far better than sony or others...plan to get one for xmas!

Hmm. I have to disagree with you, as Kindle if from Amzon and this ereader works just fine if you buy your book from amazon. But I have over a thousand books in my library that I just downloaded over the internet just for free, When I bought my first ebook I was furious when I found out that a digital book was almost as expensive as a hard cover book which I think this is ridculous. Now I;m talking about the situation in Holland. In the US the prices of the ebooks are more reasonable. But when I found out this prices I went to look around on the internet and found numerous of sites which offers every book you can dream off. Even with requests people help you with. F.e. when Dan Brown his latest book was published 1 day after the official release you could find it on those sites to be downloaded for free. Of course I buy book because there's always that special book that you can not get but I'm having no problem with that. But getting back to the real issue a sony e reader reads a lot more formats than kindle, esspecially the epub files and what is most import the ones that do not are secured , its calles no having the DRM lock. Even I when I buy a book myself the first thing I do is removing the DRM lock as I want to read it on my pc, e reader, ipad or iphone. I paid for the book and want to do with it what I choose to do,not only read it on a ereader. Imagine when your ebook crashes or your hd of your pc all your books are gone. I hope this will help you. Good luck
