Thaksin and Sondhi equally bad: Suthep

By The Nation

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban yesterday lambasted both the red-shirt and the yellow-shirt leaders, saying ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra and Sondhi Limthong were as bad as each other.

Suthep was speaking at a Chumphon hotel reception for four Democrat Party MPs in the province and 600 local party leaders.

The deputy PM hit out at both groups of protesters saying the country had been in political turmoil for three to four years because both used the media as their tools to mobilise the masses and instigate turmoil. While the yellow shirts or the People's Alliance for Democracy had ASTV, Phuchadkarn newspaper group, the red shirts had local radio stations and PTV which could mobilise hundreds of thousand people to burn down cities. "It is a pity the majority of people do nothing or do not act against this,'' he said.

He said the Democrat Party treated everyone without discrimination and in the public interest, not in the interest of Thaksin nor of Sondhi.

"If you ask me, I say both are as evil. I speak frankly because both place their own interests above the country's interests. Both have caused so much turmoil,'' he said.

He called on the silent powers to act against Sondhi and Chamlong Srimuang who have announced a major rally on December 11. "If there is no support, let Sondhi and Chamlong rally alone, see how far they can go,'' he said.

Meanwhile Pheu Thai Party party list MP Jatuporn Promphan said the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship had resolved to appoint a new team, led by Thida Tawornset, wife of weng Tochirakarn, to be caretakers of the UDD to lead the red-shirt movement. The new UDD leaders would meet on December 1.

Jatuporn also called on the red shirts not to go the Constitution Court today to hear the verdict on the party dissolution case against the Democrat Party to prevent any further problems.

Time for clean WHITE SHIRTS............;)

LaoPo

A statement like this, coming just before the Dems might get banned, almost sounds like the sort of thing a PM would say. Don't you think?

It would appear that Suthep is simply confirming that Sondhi has lost whatever high level backing he had for his actions. But then of course.....

'Interesting that Suthep would bring up Thaksin's name. It seems pretty clear to me that Thaksin is dead - evidently as of 26 April 2010. There has not been a peep out of him over the last six months - not an appearance, not a news item overseas - nothing. This for a guy who never previously went ten days in a row without making an appearance or statement somewhere - be it Montenegro, Uganda, Cambodia, or somewhere.

So - Thaksin is history - let's see who takes the reins of the Red Shirt movement.

Where have you been? Thaksin is tweeting and calling in to PTP meetings and red shirt rallies every other week.

Found this bit interesting.

Seems they will need a new (caretaker) team, now why would that be?

Could it be that khun J expects his bail to be withdrawn today.

Then he would be inside with his friends and unable to carry on as chief stirrer.

Now that would be good for the country.

I think Indo-Siam stopped reading the news in April, because he is not commenting on reality. Thaksin never shuts up.

Oh, really? I think not. There may be some people within PTP trying to propagate that Mr. T is still alive and kicking, but there have been no international sightings, and no believable first-hand indications that he is still alive since May.

And - this is a guy who had a virtual army of journalists and paparazzi following his every move, for years. He couldn't step into a restaurant, or a convenience store, anywhere in the world, and not have reporters dogging him.

We'll see if his smiling face ever shows itself again.

Didnt he meet with an opposition MP a couple of weeks ago?

Obviously Sanan's trip to Norway was to have a meeting with his ghost.

Thaksin and Sondhi equally bad: Suthep

By The Nation

"If you ask me, I say both are as evil. I speak frankly because both place their own interests above the country's interests. Both have caused so much turmoil,'' he said.

The direct quote doesn't match the headline. He didn't say they were equally bad, he said that both were evil.

While they have both instigated turmoil over the past 4 years, it doesn't acknowledge all the "evil" Thaksin had done in the 6 years prior to that.

In order to be "equally" bad, Sondhi would have had to been PM with a record of extra-judicial killings, nepotism of the highest level, ability to siphon off billions of baht from the national treasury, etc. etc. etc.

That is very interesting blip from Jatuporn.

Does that also mean that the Red Shirt Leader Sombat has been sidelined?

Not enough violencw-oriented rhetoric coming from him?

Oddly enough about that supposed meeting. Not a single photo. Strange for someone so enthralled with photographs, eg. Mandela's photo op, to not produce any nor for Sanan to have any published.

I don't think he's dead, but that aspect is highly unusual.

True, but considering the political situation, it may have been decided not to release any.

Sanan sitting down with Thaksin in a 5 star hotel sipping Moet is hardly a good look.

Wengs wife is not exactly new to all this. She is an ex-Maoist theorist and she is credited by most red shirts as having been the one who set up the single source indoctrination camps

Yes, but the opportunity to be a part of the turn-over ceremony for the oldest Buddhist transcripts in the world should have been pay dirt for a photo op.

I'm surprised Thaksin wouldn't have tried to finagle credit for such a precious loan or at least document his presence at such a prestigious event for Thailand.

So she's more in the camp of the fugitive Red Giles and less so of the moderate Reds like Sombat, then?

True.

But on the basis that Sanan went over there to meet Thaksin. He couldn't very well have come back having not met him. That would be the worst kept secret if it had happened that way.

Could you imagine explaining being snubbed in such a manner? Ooohh, the loss of face would have been unbearable.

The whole premise for Sanan's previous-scheduled trip was to bring back the ancient Buddhist transcripts from a temple in Norway.

The Thaksin meeting evolved after that.

Once again the "pro democracy" red shirt leaders make a major decision with no grassroots input / voting. And keep it in the family too. They obviously get their idea of democracy from the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. (As well as their "lob a few bombs to stir things up" tactics).

Sombat the red leader said the reds were all top down. I believe he saw that as a problem.

She has a history and was on one side of the CPT split a few decades back. Her Maoist background definitely puts her to the left and a believer in indoctrination by those better informed than the masses for the "benefit" of the masses. Im not sure Giles would be in that group though to be fair.

So the arch bent-capitalists, have installed a unreconstructed Marxist theorist, as their designated front leader of their armed militia wing... the mind boggles at the hypocrisy.
