November 29, 201015 yr I never thought I would have anything in common with Gaddafi. I was wrong. The Saudis want us to blow up Iran. Afghans are way beyond corrupt, drug dealing dishonest folks. The Saudis fund most of our terror enemies. Pakistan is not to be trusted. The Italian PM is a front guy for the Russians. You can buy off the Chinese. Obama was trying to give the terrorists from Gitmo to Belgium, Slovenia even Kiribati. Now tell the truth do you know where Kiribati is? I think Pattaya would have taken the fellows from Gitmo. I should be a diplomat. I could have done the deal. They would now be working clean up in Soi 13 tranny bar. Qatar only says they like infidels and does not really mean it. Boy is that a surprise. Muslim big shots like good whiskey. Was that really a surprise to anybody except a couple of posters on Thai Visa. “his deep ignorance on economic issues (coupled with the belief that his 18 doctorates give him the authority to suspend the laws of economics).” Now who could that be? “When the head is rotten,” he said, “it affects the whole body. That could apply to a lot of people. Who would have known that Karzi's brother ran a restaurant in Chicago. The diplomat tells of drunken guests throwing $100 bills at child dancers, and nighttime water-scooter jaunts on the Caspian Sea. And Gaddafi has a big busted nurse from the Ukraine and is “just strange.” I can see that these leaks will set the world of diplomacy back a hundred years but somehow the anarchist in me smiles. Der Spiegel is set to publish the whole shebang. It is rather telling to note that America is only up to 1972 in releasing diplomatic cables until now.
November 29, 201015 yr From what I've read, it's all pretty interesting. But like any private communication, it can cause problems because things are written with the idea that it is private. Anyone who thinks there is no harm in any of this, should open up their own personal communication to everyone - spouse, boss, friends, etc. I doubt few would like it. Questions: * When is Wiki going to leak the past 10 years of Assange's personal communication? I bet the Swedish police would be interested in reading some of that. * Is the US the only country targeted of Wikileaks? Or are they the only country that makes the news? What about diplomatic leaks from China, Russia, France, New Zealand, Australia, UK, etc? If we're going to start revealing everything, let's get everyone's cards on the table. It is rather telling to note that America is only up to 1972 in releasing diplomatic cables until now. It's not just diplomatic cables, there are a lot of govermental records in the USA that aren't released until many years have passed to protect the people involved. How many other countries even release them at all?
November 29, 201015 yr Nothing wrong with my mate Muammar. It's the sycophants around him who do the damage. I remember one evening watching him on TV (he used to do about 15 minutes every evening on his Green Book) and he was bemoaning the demise of the traditional Libyan clothing among the city dwellers. Next day his revolutionaries were out in the streets cutting off neckties and slashing 'American trousers' (jeans) which are universal in Tarabulus and Benghazi. (And Sirte - Gaddafi's home town). He has some weird ideas, but he's been in power for 40 years, so he ain't daft.

December 1, 201015 yr The Australian government has echoed US outrage at the publication of the embassy cables and has encouraged the US move to prosecute Mr Assange, an Australian citizen. Yesterday the Australian Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, told ABC radio he was fully supportive of the move to charge those responsible for the leaks.

December 1, 201015 yr The actions of the US have not discouraged all countries from expressing their support for Mr Assange and WikiLeaks. Ecuador has seemingly opened its arms, and invited it to establish a home base there. The invitation came through a comment by Ecuador's Deputy Foreign Minister, Kintto Lucas, on a website on Monday. ''We are ready to give him [Mr Assange] residence in Ecuador, with no problems and no conditions. We are going to invite him to come to Ecuador so he can freely present the information he possesses and all the documentation, not just over the internet but in a variety of public forums.'' Even though it was not Ecuador's policy to involve itself in the affairs of other countries, the worrying nature of the cables - particularly the references to Latin America - had compelled it to offer safe haven, Mr Lucas said. http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/assange-could-face-prosecution-and-years-in-jail-20101130-18fee.html

Sorry, not interested in taking your bait. However, I would be interested in you giving us some examples of things they have leaked from other governments. Are you able to do that?
December 2, 201015 yr Though I have a number of reservations about WikiLeaks it has brought into the public domain aspects of Kenya's corruption, [The Kroll Reports prepared for the government] as well issues within East Timor's as 2 'at random' examples. So in short it's not exclusively focused on the US, but it is inevitable that the US given its perceived position is the most vociferous of targets. Other's often operate on the ignore it and it'll go away, which given how some are apparently not aware of earlier activities seems to work. Regards

Regards Hardly the shitstorm we''re seeing in the world media today. I think the answer is that it just isn't interesting to anyone except a handful of people in that country.
