"omega" Watch Bought In Soi Buakhao

Hi All: I was conned, because the watch is defective (one cannot set the time) and ticks unnaturally loud (comparable to a car's engine on its last 100 miles). When I bought it, the corner shop at the junction of Central Rd / Soi Buakhao gave me 12 months' warranty. Paid THB 3,000 pluas traded in a Russian Poljot chronograph, worth maybe THB 1500. The watch itself might be a fake - it resembles the De Ville though. // What steps should I take? I mailed the watch to a friend to returned it for repairs with the warranty card to the shop. ** I thought I might get my traded in watch back and write off the THB 3,000 to experience, letting the shop keep their "Omega". Thank you for any comment or advice! Chris, presently in Belfast

Are you serious?

I'll list the errors made-

1, Never buy a so-called non fake watch from Pattaya, (or parts of BKK for that matter)

2, 3000bht with a 1500 trade in tells me that its fake or completely ****ed. :D

3, I've got a 20 year old seamaster thats still worth a couple of hundred quid.

4, A watch shop in soi buakao :D

5, unless you can eat, drink or have sex with it! Don't buy anything from places like soi buakhao. :o

sorry to hear it Chris but you might have to chalk it down to experience. :D

3000BHT for a proper Omega? :D:o Bloody he*l should have paid no more than 200BHT for an obvious fake. Proper Omegas are high end and bought from jewelers. You should have serial number on the back of the watch and you register ownership with Omega - least the proper ones. :D

I/d just add the watch to your tale of woes and forget about it. :o

Thanks - it does look like an older modell, maybe from the 60s. And it is mechanical, of course and wasn't bad looking. Because of it's obvious age, I thought it was a genuine one, but it lacks a serial number. Oh well, I'll get it "repaired" under warranty. BTW, the shop also carries some neat croco bands for around THB 300. Unlike some Russian made leather bands which fell apart within 5 weeks, I'm delighted with the Thai made croco bands - and those are genuine. *Caveat Emptor* means buyer beware - the old Romans knew human nature well :-)

What you need to do buying watches in pattaya is wear one on each limb:

1st will have no winder

2nd will be full of water from first venture in pool/sea

3rd will now be in your pocket because the strap has fell off.

4th will be 3.30 and 30 seconds as the hands are all stuck.

Now you must sit at Poppy bar on beach road with a bottle of Chang and when the sun goes down it is 6.30pm-BINGO-right time!

Easy peasy-martin. :o
