I plan to come to Phuket around Feb 20th with a friend of mine and we are going to be staying about a week. We are going for fun, sun and also going to browse apartments for future long time stay.

Right now I am looking for

2 rooms to stay in pretty close to the action in Patong area... So Good Hotel Deals, Good Condo Deals, whatever, something nice that is close to the area.... looking for suggestions

Also looking for recommendations for renting a motorbike.. touched base with a hotel i was looking at and they want 500baht a day, that way to much to my usual 100 looking for thoughts there as well.

thanks everyone!

You are not going to get a motorbike for a 100baht a day.

I would say around 300 and they are available to rent anywhere in patong.

What are the monthly rates for bikes around the area?

Depends where you look. Front line places more expensive. Small back street places rent a gear bike for 3,000 baht/month. An automatic more like from 4,500 baht/month depending on model.

We used to rent 3k a month.. I think theres a fair few others at that price for an older auto..

If you need a month I know someone who has a bunch of bike and would be cheaper than the frontline shops.

If you are only looking for a Dream or a Wave or similar, you are being diddled if you pay more than B150/day short term or B100/day long term. No shortage of competition - just go for a walk. (BTW, be aware that there is usually no insurance cover.)

Its only possible to get third party accident insurance in Thailand for scooters. Not full insurance....can you imagine if they were fully insured?...people would be sending scooters off chalong pier and laem promthep to claim insurance at an amazing rate.....If the scooter has got a valid tax sticker you are covered for the other persons hospital bills to the tune of 20,000 baht (i think but im not certain). Best off having travel insurance from your own country. And have a licence...wear your helmet and dont drink and drive and you have nothing to worry about....simple :)

I think the bike insurance differs on the value of the bike...so if it was an expensive bike you can insure it.....but if its less than 100,000 its difficult....BTW this is all stuff ive heard....I dont really have much to back this up...just word of mouth

Good luck and Snamos is correct hte only insurance available for all motorbikes UNDER 150 CC is the standard Thai 3rd party insurance, teh companies wont touch them for fully comp. Holiday insurance will cover you though just check the small print. :jap:
