Catching A Public Bus From Don Muang Train Station To Suvarnabhumi

I am taking the train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. I am meeting my GF at Suvarnabhumi. I could get off Hua Lamphong or Don Muang station which is 1 hour earlier.

Does anyone know if I can catch a public bus possibly the 554 or 555 near Don Muang train station to get to Suvarnabhumi Airport?

If "yes" approximately how long is the ride?

I have read on TV that both buses go to Don Muang Airport.

Thanks

There's an hourly public "transfer" bus that stops outside Don Muang at Ground Level, number 521 or similar, there used to be a desk outside to buy tickets but unsure if it's still there, goes to Swampy in about 45 mins, cost around Baht 40 or so.

yes, you can.you have to cross the road to take the bus. it will take about an hour, depends on the traffic. :jap:

Can you tell me bus number? Have you or someone else taken it recently?

Alternatively you could exit the train at Bang Sue and take MRT to Pethchburi, walk 200m and take the Airport express (100B) or slower city line (15B) to Suvarnaboum-something.

waiting for that 555 bus at DM might be a long wait (as I experienced)

I just wanted to add a little more info to the advice given above (some incorrect). Buses 555 and 554 run 24 hrs a day, every 30-45 during the day. Just use the enclosed pedestrian overpass which links the hotel and old International Airport to the city bound side of Vihavadi where there is a bus stop.

(Note that if you take Chiang Mai's suggestion to catch a bus from the Domestic Terminal at DM it is located around 1km south of DM train station.)

Time duration will obviously depend on if it is peak time or not - you don't state what time your arriving.

Bus 555 travels down Vihavadi all the way to Din Daeng then Rama 9 before getting on the expressway 1km past Asoke. During the morning peak it is very slow down Vihavadi.

Bus 554 turns left from Vihavadi into Chaeng Wattana then along Ram Inthra to the Eastern Expressway. It can be very slow along Ram Inthra during the day.

Expect both to take 1hr give or take 15 mins contingent on traffic conditions.

Remember, that if you don't have more than a small bag you can also take a mini-van (numbered 555 & 554 in orange or blue on the side of the van) which runs the same routes at stop at the bus stop if you flag them. Frequency varies as they depart when they are full but they are usually more frequent than the buses. They have the advantage of being a bit quicker, more comfy and will drop you at the terminal as opposed to the Transport Centre (that saves a good 15-20mins total journey time). Cost is around 40-50baht.

Another option apart from the Bang Sue>MRT>Airport express is to take any of numerous buses which go to victory Monument and then Phaya Thai and catch the airport express from there. However, this will be much slower during any peak period and is not recommended.

One last point, as you most likely know, long distance trains arriving from the north & NE can be upwards or 2-3 hrs late. Bear that in mind in your plans.
