Mk Iii Cortina In Nong Khai

Featured Replies

After rubbing my eyes i can confirm that there are, driving around Nong Khai province,a Mk III,a Mk IV and a Mk V Cortina. How these 70's classics got to be here i would love to know. The Mk III was my first car and so weird to see a Isaan farmer and family chugging along.

What would make my day would be to see a Capri whizz by.Any other English classics around driven by ordinary Thais?

Seen a few Ford Anglias running about.

Probabally owned by local schoolteachers :o

At least 2 Mk2 Capris (one with an oddly remodelled front end, evidently crunched in the past) and a Mk1 Cortina in Pathum Thani, a Mk1 Transit with the extended diesel front, no rust! (well maybe a little bit of rust) in Rangsit.

Several old Angleboxes and at least one Austin A40 in BKK centre.

Stacks of Series 1 and 2 Landrovers (apparently something like 80% of civilian Landys ever built are still running).

Often do a double-take when something from my past whizzes by in the other direction. Becoming a pastime whilst driving, spot the old Brit-mobile.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

In Phrae I have spotted

3 Cortina MkIII

1 Cortina MkII

2 Anglia

1 Austin Westminster

2 Ford Esquire

5 Mini (circa 1960)

1 Sunbeam Alpine

2 Hillman Hunter

1 Hillman Minx (1958)

and that's just the English cars

Mk1 Escorts (4 wheeled, not old dragons!! :o ), Austin/Morris 1100 & 1300.

A number of elderly Alfas -not suffering form the dreaded Italian tinworm either!!!

there is a 1950's hillman minx often parked near the mouth of soi 20 sukhumvit in bkk. (or is it soi 18????)

hua - hin has a morris minor in good condition.

austin / morris 1100's are not uncommon around thailand too.

never see any finned americana though , i would have thought there would be a lot of them here.

Seem to remember that there is/was an elderly Thai lady who used to drive up Suk Rd (maybe C driven??) in something like a 1949 black Roller...few years ago..

There is a beautifully restored Landrover cruising around Sriracha...
