Recommended Posts

I know a recent post asked the same, but it turned out for the lucky one that there was one in Pak Chong... surely there must be at least one in Korat city ? Closer than a 40 minutes drive ?

Thank you !

Just north of the Dusit Princess Hotel there is a night market. And there is a muay Thai gym on the edge of the market place.

I dont know if it is open for anyone to train there though, as I have just been a couple of times when they have had fight nights on a monday.

Just thought to give an update and contribute to the forum at the same time

Never found the gym HL is referring to, I will give it another shot,

As for the thai boxing gym state in korat, I only managed to find 2

VPP Stadium, which teaches for 250baht per hour, located right behind the big c, accessible by a small soi

and got another one that is under construction, nearby the park that is somewhat near the train station, the same street at least,

phone number is the following 0879667173

500 bahts per month to access the gym, I have to say that I do not feel that foreigners are welcome since at first he did not want to teach me anything because he thought there would be communication problems... but we were talking in thai since the beginning so ... ? maybe a polite way to say that they don't want farang customer ? Anyways, it is closed for now so I will have to inquire further shortly

Thank you happylarry for your reply and I will keep looking

JangwatQc did you actually find the night market just north of the Dusit Hotel?

If you did then on the northernmost edge of the night market there is a Thai barbecue style restaurant next to the main road and next to the restaurant is a very large white building actually in the market car park. this is a Muay Thai boxing gym but I dont know anything more about it except I went there a couple of nights when they had competitions on.

If you cant find it and are definately interested in doing so then pm me and I will give you my phone number and show you.

I asked an expat friend of mine who is knwoledgable of the Korat muay thai scene. He gave me the following recommendations, which I am posting below. These are the original responses from my friend, with some editing on my part for typos and grammar:

"1) Wor Petchpun (or Petchboon) is the name of the gym closer to Yamo, they do own a boxing stadium behind Big C. Don't know exact location of the training facility. The owner is a very wealthy muaythai fan, runs the gym out of pure passion.. supposed to be a really nice guy.

2) It was years ago that I visited the gym at the army base. At that time they didn't have any previous foreigners. But these days they have a website and have apparently tailored the training to suit guests from abroad =). You can find good info on http://www.pspmuayth....com/.

Although, if you get an affordable quote, I recommend the gym close to Yamo, which is regarded as one of the best gyms in Thailand producing local champions around the Bangkok muaythai circuit."

I personally googled for "Wor Petchpun Gym Korat" and found the address from a December 2008 posting on a muay thai forum (I think I am not allowed to link to another forum, so here is a cut-and-paste instead):

160/2 Nongburong Road

Muang District

Nakorn Ratchasima

30000

telephone: +66(0) 44230230

fax: +66(0) 44230678

The posting also gives detailed information of costs and training regime. If you cannot find it via Google, then PM me and will be happy to send you the link.

Hope this helps
