In another thread the Ho Sen hotel on Thi Sach (hotel located between Apocalypse Now and one of the few remaining bia hoi workers' bars left in the area) was recommended.

Do NOT stay there especially if you like having your afternoon nap as there is building work next door.

In fact I would not recommend booking (and paying ahead) for a long stay in any Saigon Hotel as there is so much construction work going on in some areas that you could regret your choice. Book a few nights and then look around.

It's clean, good location & no frills. We paid $20 p/n for a double room, a/c, cable, private bath, breakfast included. As far as a "good location" goes it depends what you're looking for. This place is in the backpacker area which for us happened to be a "good location".
