I have had a good look at some of these threads and was wondering which was the preferred destination for people getting a non B?

I am a UK citizen in Phuket currently holding a Non O but have been offered a job. Company is paying the expenses (but are a bit tight) so any advice for the low to medium budget places to get a quick non B would be appreciated.

I intend to make a long weekend out of it so any tips on entertainment would be great.

Thanks in advance.

If your Non-imm O isn't being used as a retirement Visa then you can actually get a work permit on it, so no need to get a Non-imm B!

You sure? My Non O Stamp says "Employment Prohibited"

I get a free trip to KL if I need a visa, so I might go anyway......

Obviously you should check with a lawyer or some other official 'expert' but . . . I am about to change my Non B to Non O (not retirement) and I have been advised that my work permit can be issued on this O visa, not only that but if I were to set up a company then the required minimum paid up capital is reduced to B1M and my tax liability is also reduced.

I would check out the Non Imm O route if I were you.

BTW - I have used Penang several times for Non B applications with absolutely no problems at all, the one time that I used Singapore I had a minor problem but possibly only due to the fact that the office in Singapore seems to be more attentive to detail. Penang does appear to have a reputation for being easier.

Thanks for the info. What documents did you need for the first time?

So far I think I need:

Passport

Work Letter/Contract

2 Passport Photos

Application Form (Is this downloadable or do I get it there?)

Do I need more company documents ie. registration, tax etc?

You may want to review this thread regarding Penang if you haven't already done so.

Thanks for that. It was that thread that made me a bit worried. I think I will take as many company documents as possible.

It is correct that an entry permit issued against a non-immigrant O visa can be used to get a work permit - and can then be extended on either of two bases:

1) On the basis of supporting Thai spouse.

2) On the basis of qualifying employment for a qualified employer.

Forget the stamp - what it really intends to say is "this visa/entry permit is not sufficient on its own to authorize work".

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice Steve!

What would I need to qualify for a qualified employer? Does this mean a degree, technical qualification, or just a vague "need" by the employer?

Ok I have made my plans to go to KL this Sunday and stay still Tuesday/Wednesday/depends on the buggers at the Consulate. If anyone has any advice about the Consulate or the city it would be appreciated. I will make sure to leave feedback when I come back.

Make sure you read the thread properly Jimbob.

If you don't have a WP3 form or you will NOT get your B visa. From experience it will take your employer 7 working days to get it for you.

The fact that your leaving early next week makes me feel you have not organised one....unless your company has used other means.

I have had a look but the people in quesiton were getting Non I B visas. I need a Non B, do you know if this will also mean I need a WP3?

I am going to take copies of all tax registration, company registration with me just in case but would like to know more about the WP3 for Non B.

Jsut got my Non-B. It is the first one I have gotten and I had no problems at all.

I queued up monday morning at 9, filled in the application form then handed it in with all my documents. I gave them a letter of contract, one photo (but had more just in case), and copies of all the company documents (and I mean ALL OF THEM) and a copy of my passport.

Went back today and was given a single entry non b, valid for 90 days. I am very relieved after reading about Penang but can highly recommend coming to KL to get your non B. Great city too, much more shops than BKK and many things are cheaper (except beer). I stayed/am staying in Bhuket Bintang, near all the shops and close to Times Square. Loads of hotels rtanging form 500 baht to 5000. Mine is 1500 and my company has paid for it and the flight so am out on a bender tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be careful with the Guinness though as it is 8%!!!!!!!!!
