Thai military officials accuse Cambodia of territorial breaches, prompting tighter border controls. Crime Female Local Government Officer Gunned Down in Her Grocery Shop in Pattani

A shocking murder has shaken the local community in Pattani after a female subdistrict administrative officer (SAO) was fatally shot multiple times in her own grocery shop. Authorities are investigating possible motives, including personal issues, work-related tensions and regional unrest. Pol. Col. Torlap Lengha, Superintendent of Mayo Police Station, confirmed that police were alerted by Mayo Hospital at 22:05 on 7 June, reporting a shooting victim who had succumbed to her injuries en route to the hospital. The incident occurred at a grocery shop in Moo 2, Panan subdistrict, Mayo district. The victim, identified as Ms Mariyah aged 45, was employed as a financial officer at the administrative organisation of Pado subdistrict. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found in critical condition. Eyewitnesses reported hearing several gunshots ring out in rapid succession, followed by the discovery of the victim’s body amidst a pool of blood in her shop. Forensic officers were dispatched to the scene on the morning of 8 June to gather further evidence, while surrounding CCTV footage is being reviewed. Preliminary findings suggest that the attack was premeditated and may have involved more than one assailant. Police are actively pursuing three possible motives: a personal dispute, work-related conflict or involvement with the ongoing unrest in Thailand’s southern border provinces. The investigation is being led by Pol. Lt. Col. Sannpakorn Luechiew, who has been tasked with overseeing the collection of evidence and interviewing witnesses. Senior commanders have ordered an expedited operation to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
