Second hand makes no difference.. Sales tax (and sometimes luxury goods taxes) are applied on new or not new.

If something is marked as 20 usd or less it comes under the level and is free. Tho they can 'estimate' value and do if its marked as zero value.

Sending it via couriers like DHL Fedex etc is much more likely to attract tax and attention. USPS and low value dec and descriptions like 'gift' or 'for repair' usually slip through.

How much duty do they add? I am interested in getting an Ipod Dock but the one i want is twice the price as it is in the states!mad.gif Its around US300

I had my sister send me one she bought in WalMart last year.

$300 seemed like a good deal till that Wal Mart junk breaks.

TUrned out to be what you pay for it.

Anyway, she just wrote on the cutoms form that it was a notebook and valued it around $80.

They didn't charge me any duty.

It was a gamble all the way around and now it's broken.

But at least it was cheap.

Sales is 7% and luxury goods is 30%.. But it seems very random what they asses..

Also the charges are cumulative and based on item AND shipping cost if using a courier etc.
