You have probably seen this news passing by. In America a Member of Congress from Democrats, Gabrielle Giffords was seriously injured in an attack on her life. Unfortunately there are simple souls who do such things. What is perhaps worse, is that there are even more simple souls who are endorsing this ! Come on in, friends of the Westboro Baptist Church...

No different to other religious extremists / zealots that think killing innocent men women and children in the name of some make believe God is perfectly fine and an example to all. In the 21st century I fail to understand how we allow this type of person to spout such crap ?

Is that for real?

Fred's "church" is his extended family. He's the guy that tried to protest at Matt Shepard's funeral. He has/had a virulently anti-gay website. All in all anoher psycho that wishes he were David Koresh.

As someone who believes in free speech and opposes censorship, there is some pride that I feel that someone with as disgusting a point of view as Phelps is still ALLOWED to express his views publicly. It's not like his views have any traction, but it sure would be scary if they did.

Very good point, Jingthing, but I sometimes think there is a point where free speach steps over the line. I doubt if a psychotic paedophile would be allowed to stand up and spew his filth in the same manner.

I know in many countries the free speach of a vile person like Freddy Phelps would land you in a heep of doo do... and might even cost you your life.

Documentary was with Paul Theroux

Louis Theroux actually. His son.

But Phelps is even more vile than Theroux's show reveals. A piece of filth. (whose right to free speech I support with great regret but support nonetheless).

You're right, free speech isn't total. BTW, you talk like a Canadian, ha ha. Over the line, indeed.
