Thai - Cambodia Conflict Government Eases Ban on Agricultural Drone Flights

The government has announced a partial relaxation of the nationwide drone ban, allowing the use of drones for agricultural purposes under strict conditions from Monday, 11 August 2025. Government spokesman Jirayu Huangsap said the Security Committee on Border Affairs (SBTA) agreed to ease restrictions that were imposed due to ongoing security concerns along the Thai–Cambodian border. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued its third directive permitting registered agricultural drones to operate within specified parameters, while drones for all other purposes remain banned nationwide. The current blanket ban will remain in place for all non-agricultural drones until 15 August 2025 or until further notice. Agricultural drone operations must comply with the following rules: • Both the drone and its operator must be fully registered with the CAAT, with valid documentation. • Operators must hold CAAT authorisation for agricultural use. • No record of prior violations or revoked flight rights. • Flights are restricted to the operator’s own farmland or areas where permission from the landowner has been granted. • Flight plans must be submitted at least 12 hours in advance via the CAAT’s UAS Portal (website or app) and notified to local police or village heads, as well as the Anti-Drone Operations Centre via email. • Maximum flight altitude is 30 metres. • Flights may only take place between 06:00 and 18:00 – night flights remain prohibited. • Drones may only be used for spreading organic or inorganic substances, agricultural chemicals, water or fertiliser, photography and surveying are not allowed. Strict no-fly zones remain in place, including restricted or hazardous areas listed in Thailand’s Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), martial law zones, areas with active military operations and within a 9-kilometre radius of any airport or aircraft landing site. Violations carry penalties of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. Authorities also have the power to destroy or intercept unauthorised drones using anti-drone systems. Accident Rescue Teams Save 19-Month-Old Child Trapped in Truck Crash
Pictures courtesy of Naewna. Rescue workers successfully saved a 19 months old child trapped inside the wreckage of an 18-wheel truck that plunged down a ravine in Khun Jae National Park. The crash claimed the life of the child’s mother and left the father in critical condition. In the early hours of 10 August, police officers from Mae Jadhee Police Station in Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province, along with the Amarin Tai Disaster Response Rescue Association and several other volunteer rescue organisations, responded to a crash on Highway 118, the Chiang Rai–Chiang Mai route. The crash occurred near the Khun Jae National Park headquarters, in Ban Khun Lao, Moo 7, Mae Jadhee Mai Subdistrict. According to Police Colonel Suphap Khueankaew, Chief of Mae Jadhee Police Station, the location is a steep, four-lane highway section descending from Doi Nang Kaeo mountain, near the Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai provincial boundary. Despite protective concrete barriers installed along sharp bends, the truck had struck and crossed over the barrier, falling into a deep ravine. At the scene, rescuers found the 18-wheel truck severely damaged with its wheels lifted off the ground. The driver, a man trapped inside the vehicle, was critically injured. Nearby lay the body of a woman, believed to be the driver’s wife, who had been thrown from the truck and died at the scene. Both were rushed urgently to Wiang Pa Pao Hospital. Rescue workers also heard the cries of a young girl, approximately 19 months old, trapped beneath the wreckage. Carefully extracting the child, rescuers found her frightened but unharmed and immediately transported her to hospital for treatment. Authorities quickly coordinated with related agencies to care for the child and notified her relatives. The incident site has been known for frequent crashes due to its steep, winding nature. The police have issued warnings for motorists to exercise extreme caution on this stretch of road and have installed additional warning lights to prevent future incidents. What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
I'm a fan of the Australian legal office comedy series Fisk. I had watched the first two seasons and recently realized the third was already out, so happily binged on that. A fourth season has not been announced as yet. The finale of Season 3 could work either as a finale or an opener to a Season 4.
