hotandcool
When the wi-fi in your hotel room is down or else, what's the best place to go to with my laptop in your view? (possibly not too far from South Pattaya Road, end of Soi Buakhao, alternatively anywhere where I could use the laptop and grab a bite). gmac
In the absence of any knowledgable response to date I would suggest you try one of the coffee shops close to Tukcom, Starbucks and S&P are both in the place and there are one or two more around. Sounds like the right area for you and with the amount of computer shops in Tukcom I would think it likely there must be some free Wi-fi available to be had. hotandcool
Never found any. Blimey, that's depressing, did you try hard? Not even in McDonalds or KFCs? I meant precisely that area, Tukcom is at arm's lenght from where I'll be staying, but I wouldn't mind going a bit further so people feel free to share your thoughts
PattayaParent
Never found any. Blimey, that's depressing, did you try hard? Not even in McDonalds or KFCs? I have an iphone and I open it up wherever I go. None in KFC, none in RGP or Carrefour, I never go to McD so wouldn't know about there. Mike's Mexican has a good connection but you need to ask for the code.

moo9
There are many offers for true 3g availble and you get a decent speed downtown. Unless you intend to download huge files it is a good alternative and you can sit where you like... Edited January 22, 2011 by moo9
craigt3365
After reading an article, which I can't find now, where a guy sits at Starbucks in the US and get's people's login in info...even for Amazon, etc...I'm trying to avoid open wifi spots now. It's crazy how much info they can get from you if you are not careful...
Qman
I have used free wifi at Pattaya Beer Garden at the end of Beach Road by the entrance to Walking Street in the past but have not used recently so best to check with them. Some coffee shops have but charge a fee.

Even better, you can avoid the local "pick-up" problem by using a VPN -- some are free others are relatively low cost subscription. WIth these, everything you send and receive is encrypted between your computer and the VPN server. Nothing can be picked in the WiFi area nor the local LAN nor even the country you're in (if the server is overseas).

Jale
As a minimum, use https whenever possible signing to your web services. Communication between you and them is encrypted. Can you elaborate more on this? How does it work? ... Many login pages are available both under their standard http://.... url address and https://..... which is the secure way to exchange info with a server as it it encoded/decoded before/after transmission. It means that the data is unreadable while on its way. Google, yahoo, and many others give you that choice. If you see http://.... in the browser address bar while you're about to login, add an s after the http (to get https://....) and if the server allows it, you end up with an encrypted transmission. Better yet, if you use Firefox, download the add-on called HTTPS-Everywhere. This will make it automatic to choose https when possible. It's available at https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere. neilf
There is an interesting press cutting here dated 07 December 2010 yes but we still dont have it and who knows if they tested or not in any event the use of the existing 2g or edge to try to " push " it through as they say is not really a satisfactory way to do it a bit like trying to run a gas boiler on too small a gas feed pipe
raro
There is an interesting press cutting here dated 07 December 2010 yes but we still dont have it and who knows if they tested or not in any event the use of the existing 2g or edge to try to " push " it through as they say is not really a satisfactory way to do it a bit like trying to run a gas boiler on too small a gas feed pipe this works fine as long as not too many people use it. Then the bandwidth will go down. 3g at the designated 2.1 GHz frequency does not exist in Thailand.
