Public Transport From Udon Thani Airport

Hi all,

I'm flying from Bangkok to Udon Thani next week for the first time. I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to get around as I don't drive / ride and am thinking I could be in trouble!

I've never been to Udon Thani it's self, only been around this area once, around an hour away from Udon when I travelled by coach from Morchit and just stayed at girlfriends (her family picked me up by car).

Could anyone help with a bit of info, how close to the city is the airport? Buses / taxi from airport to Udon, how much? Where to stay in Udon? I'd like to be near the nightlife/bars if possible, how much would a hotel be?

Can you get around Udon by foot? Is there much to see?

Sorry too many questions ! Any help would be great,

Hi I can reccomend Surada Guest House. Give Surada a phone call before you take off. and she will pick you up from the airport. Her rooms are about Baht 330 for a single aircon room or Baht 550 for a double. (Very nice ensuite rooms) Icludes breaky. "Nang", Surada,s manager is a very nice older lady and a good cook.

Her guest house is centrally located and out the front there is a pick up place for motorsai/ songtoiew (sp)?

BTW:

Wife & I visit Udon a lot, have many friends there. We use the local taxi service often find them very efficient and friendly. Unlike the supposed mob in Pattaya which I find worse than the Tuk Tuk Mafia in Phuket.

Often a few cars waiting at the Bus Station. They'll give you a phone contact, we sometimes stay a bit out of the centre and they always arrive 10 mins or so later.

The Guest House offers free pick up from the airport. Guest just need to call beforehand guests arrive.

By Taxi:

When you get to the airport, ride a cab for 50bhat, takes you to the guest house in about approximately 20 mins.

taxi from airport to city in 10 minutes, taxi,s are very cheap, stop worrying. few farang bars and resturaunts near central plasa in udon central, the main bus station is a 3-5 minute walk from central plaza, the massive night market (centrepoint) is 5 minute walk from central plaza. everything is close and handy. enjoy

oh, if your wanting a good clean cheap hotel with internet etc then i suggest top mansion 350 baht per night, you you guessed it , near central plaza

When you come out of arrivals on the right just before the Exit door there is a counter where you can get a shared minibus into town (50 baht) or a private car (200 baht)........the airport is about 6kms from the centre of Udon.

You wont have a problem getting around Udon.There is its own Udon Taxi service plus many many saamlaws to take you around and also Sangthaews (tuk tuks) till about 7pm at night.

Where to stay......if you want to be near the nightlife and bars then,as has been mentioned,Top Mansion or City Lodge (500 baht) or Irish Clock (750 baht).

All these are where the nightlife is and about 5 minutes walk to Central Plaza for shopping or take a saamlaw to Central for 30 baht .

If you want a hotel with a pool near the centre try the Charoen Botanical (900 baht).....its 10 minutes walk to Central or the nightlife area but you can get a saamlaw for 40 baht.

contact info from an ad on internet. set back from the street 30M it's hard to know

what to make of it but the images in the ad indeed show a nicely fitted-out place.

and it is very convenient. right across the street from new UD town - night bazaar.

Ruysuk hotel is a good shout for accomodation 360THB a night. Very clean and quiet. The price I believe is on a sliding scale, decreasing depending on length of stay.
