'Iran arrests two men affiliated with al-Qaeda'

TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Iran on Tuesday arrested two men affiliated with terrorist organization al-Qaeda, according to state-run media on Thursday, citing unnamed sources.

The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said the two men, identified only as 'Nemat' and 'Naser', were arrested on Tuesday in the village of Sardasht in northwestern Iran. Details about their alleged affiliation with al-Qaeda were not immediately known.

According to the report, the men were preaching Wahhabism in the town and their activities consisted of intensifying differences between Shia and Sunni groups. Wahhabi is a religious movement within Sunni Islam and is based on the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.

Other details were not immediately released and the men remained in custody as of Thursday. It was not clear if they were planning any attacks.
