The Appeals Court Friday commuted the jail term of convicted Canadian paedophile from six years to five years and four months.

The court upheld the guilty ruling of Christopher Paul Neil, 35, an English-language teacher.

Neil was convicted in luring a nine-year-old boy to have sex with him at his room in Bangkok's Din Daeng district in 2003.

The lower court initially sentenced Neil to six years in jail but the Appeals Court commuted it to five years and four months. He was also ordered to pay a compensation worth Bt50,000 to the boy's family.

Reduced his sentance??? He should of got double figures in the first place!!!!

Lets hope he gets deported on release and that the Canadian authorities place him immediately on a sex offender register. Filthy Slag :realangry:

Double figures are only handed down for the crimes that the Thai government regard as serious, like drugs for instance.

There's nothing worse than having a pocket full of drugs !

These predictable "hang 'em high" posts remind me of the 2-minute hate in the book "1984", or the stoning of the devil ceremony during the hajj in mecca.

Seems everyone who wants to let out a little steam and evidence what good-hearted people they are like to compete against each other to issue the strongest condemnation.

Yeah we should draw and quarter him, cut off his balls, burn him in hell, etc.... blah blah blah.

Let me guess.

You don't have children of your own and think a slap on the wrist is barbaric.

That attitude is exactly why the pendulum has now swung in the opposite direction to where it was 100 years ago, back then it was too black, now it is too white.

I was looking at some websites regarding child sex offenders abroad...specifically Canada as I know one particular scumbag ex - school teacher which i am trying to track down. Canada has no statute of limitations on sex offenders....it can be 5 minutes ago or 50 years ago it doesnt matter. Once citizens are prosecuted in one country they are then prosecuted in Canada.

5-6 years for a convicted farang pedophile...

20 years for the Thai wat undertaker involved in the aborted foetus discovery....

How exactly does the Thai justice system explain that one?

They don't

Thailand like most countries does not have a Justice system.

They have a legal system.

Legal and Justice quite often have nothing to do with each other.:(

This is one of the many reasons why the locals distrust Farangs.

He's a <deleted> scumbag but many of the "locals" are bigger scumbags for arranging this kind of thing with their own children. There's so much shady stuff going on in this place so let's not act like Thais are as pure as the driven snow they do some pretty sick things themselves

You know you should never ask that question! Too many variables come into play - did the judge have a good night before sentencing with the gik or was he hanging over after a party with Johnny Black? Differences never add up no matter which way you look at it and precedents are never quoted in Thai law on sentencing or by defence or prosecuting counsel that I have heard. Just depends on the judge and on the day and the weather and the fortune tellers on Vipavahdi Road. rolleyes.gif

Anyone thinking Thailand's justice system is any worse than any other country's is living in a glass house. OJ is found innocent of murder even after all the evidence points to him and only him. You want more examples? There is no real justice in any country on this planet.

The use of castration was used in the past quite effectively. Repeat sexual offenders should get the knife. Some of those nutless rehabilitants were noted as being very grateful, because this grinding sexual urge was gone and they said they could think clearly again. Hormones are the key to a lot of psychological problems and ironically there are tons of tasty edible chemicals in meats and plastic that are messing a lot of people's hormones. Hence, lots of loons loose in the yard.

... adding to that, keep in mind that sexual abuse has been around for a long time, passed down. He very well may have been an innocent victim to similar circumstances when he was a child. We are only recently beginning to bring these ongoing issues to light. Rehabilitation is the real goal, punishment is simply fulfilling our personal angers. I see only efforts based on punishment being used and until this changes, incarcerations no matter how long will not be very effective.

So Thailand is the only country to hand down single figure sentences to pedos? You lot must have short and selective memories!

Leader of paedophile ring in Britain, involved with the nursery scandal in Portsmouth got 9 years. Four other women involved got 7, 4, 7 and 5 years.

British paedophile who committed more than 46 attacks, 8 years.

American peado caught in Scotland got 1 year.

Or how about Republican judge Mark Pazuhanich who pleaded no contest to fondling a 10-year old girl and was sentenced to 10 years probation.

Republican County Commissioner David Swartz pleaded guilty to molesting two girls under the age of 11 and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Republican legislator Edison Misla Aldarondo was sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping his daughter between the ages of 9 and 17.

Republican election board official Kevin Coan was sentenced to two years probation for soliciting sex over the internet from a 14-year old girl.

Don't be so quick to tear Thailand to shreds when poor sentencing happens all over the world. The US couldn't even properly punish people who held positions of power and trust. Oh wait, that's what you always criticise Thailand for....:whistling:

Don't forget this guy is wanted for the similar heinous crimes in Vietnam, and Canada wants him also. After his stretch in the Bangkok monkey house, he'll be moving on to other free accomodations....

This proves exactly what I am saying: Punishment is not enough. Simply making someone think long and hard about it. In his case, he may even enjoy the monkey house because of all the action he can get.
