German man threatens to kill himself after he loses money speculating with stocks and shares.

Police were called to the Markland apartments in Soi 1 off of Pattaya Beach Road to deal with a foreign man who was preparing to end his life by jumping from his apartment balcony. Police arrived and went to the 26th floor and found the man who immediately displayed an aggressive stance and as officers approached, a fight ensued. Police realized the man was suffering from emotional distress and used minimal force to suppress the man. Mr. Peter Lak aged 48 from Germany was taken to Pattaya Police Station and placed behind bars for a time to cool off. He was later released and continued to fight with Police who showed amazing restraint and did not fight back. He was taken to hospital by a Sawang Boriboon Rescue Unit to deal with cuts and bruises sustained in the initial altercation at his apartment. Police tell us that the reason behind his action was a considerable financial loss Mr Lak sustained after speculating on the stock exchange. The man is now undergoing a psychiatric evaluation and will not face any criminal charges. The German embassy in Bangkok are also monitoring the case.
