2nd Army Commander Calls Yellow-shirt PAD Ultra-nationalists

The 2nd Army commander has accused the People's Alliance for Democracy of being ultra-nationalists and has challenged them to go fight the Cambodian military themselves.

Second Army Commander Lieutenant-General Tawatchai Samutsakorn remarked during a radio interview, sarcastically saying that he would arm any of the ultra-nationalist protesters who would like to fight Cambodia.

Tawatchai also commented on the ongoing demonstrations in Bangkok calling them detrimental to the country.

The press has recently revealed a set of photographs showing MP Charoen Kanthawongs from the Democrat Party, who is also the president of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Committee, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Thai Armed Forces Admiral Narong Yuthavong and Tawatchai participating in a religious ceremony at Kaew Sikha Kiri Sawara Buddhist Temple built in the disputed area near the Preah Vihear Temple.

Critics say these photos allows Cambodia to claim that the Thai government accepted that the area belonged to Cambodia because the Cambodian national flag is clearly discernible in the photos.

Tawatchai pointed out that his participation in the ceremony was routine duty and that they are now being politicized.

The regional army commander has asserted that whether the area is in Thailand or not depends on the negotiations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the 2nd Army commander is repudiating criticisms that the armed forces were unprepared for dealing with mass evacuation of the Thai residents living along the border.

Tawatchai claims the locals were successfully evacuated with the assitance of the armed forces.

It begins to smell bad.

PAD could tells "OK, we go"

The Commander is "playing with fire".

Who would stop them from doing so?

Well it is the shortest route to being rid of PAD.

He is calling their bluff, and bets are they blink. If they don't, then there are less of them around in short order, and the old farts running them will now remember what they've forgotten in their old age;

War is Bad for Everyone.

Although a life-long fairly dedicated pacifist

(fairly  )

sometimes I just can't help but kinda fairly much like

the Thai army.

I agree. They seem to serve a vital balancing role, in a country that goes out of balance at the drop of a hat.

Chamlong is one of the greatest cowards in Thai history. The suggestion is a great one, and the Thai army commander is to be praised for calling a spade a spade. He is basically calling out the PAD, as being incendiary, and the cause of inciting this problem. Which few people who are willing to face the truth, could deny. This army commander is level headed, and exactly what Thailand needs. This war is much ado about nothing. The world knows that. Hun Sen is playing Abhisit like a top. Kasit is completely out of his depth and element. Hun Sen will continue lobbying the NGO's, who provide him with much of his fortune, the UN, and anyone willing to listen to this fool. Abhisit has not come up with a single good idea yet, to address this conflict. Amazing. And I thought he was a brilliant man.

Nov. 2008 during the yellow shirt airport shutdown, I stayed at the Thong Ta with the army parking on the highway to the airport outside my window.

One of the British guests went to the commander and demanded to know "Why aren't you doing something to clear out those people?"

The commander got a serious and ponderous look on his face and said "Somebody might get hurt".

Priceless!

The PAD seem quite willing to send others to fight and die for their cause. Let's see how they fare on their own.

Chances are that it will be fairly short and painless.

Just remember to send them out a good distance from the temple, we wouldn't want anything useful to be destroyed, now would we?

He's not riding a motorbike.

Look carefully, it's got three wheels so he doesn't need a helmet.

PAD do what they do best to express their concerns. The Army General, on the other hand just repeated his boss'es words daring PAD to fight at the border. Now that's the Army jobs, which have yet to meet the people's expectation, both at the east. and in the south. Be a man, General! Give us the long overdue answer why the Army lets the Khmer advances on the land around the Pra Viharn Shrine while barring the Thai from the area.

This whole thing would make a good sitcom. It does not reflect the thinking of the common Thai person here, they could not care less.

However the THE BOYS IN BKK are a laughing stock.

Tawatchai Samutsakorn

The man deserves a promotion!

Freaking nationalists make me sick, no matter where they're from. They're always up to no good. Mad, basically.

Brilliant,

There are a lot of reasons I love this country and this sort of thing is one of them.

I wonder what he would of proposed to arm the protesters with if pushed by the radio host, fully loaded bananas maybe?

I LIKE this General! Hell, I'll even pay to charter the buses they need to get from BKK to the border. Probably wouldn't cost much, as you could load all the "volunteers" into one Songtow.

:cheesy:

As someone once said "When the rich make war, the poor die." I don't think the PAD is prepared to die.
